Hi, I am looking for a campground close to San Diego for a few nights in March this year. I am trying to avoid the expensive private RV parks, and parking lot style camping on the beach does not appeal to us.
Sweetwater Summit is at the top of my list. This is a San Diego county park, close to town. Here is a link to the park web page.
Sweetwater Summit Regional Park
The main issue keeping me from booking a site are the reports of ants in the campground. I expect this is a seasonal issue, likely more severe in the warm summer months.
I phoned the park hoping to find out if we would be OK staying there in March. The person I talked to admitted they had an ant problem, different from year to year, and that they had been working to improve it, but there were still some ants around, but he wouldn't give me any more than that.
Are there any Escape owners that have stayed there that want to comment on this park, or have other suggestions for camping close to San Diego in March?
Any information you can provide is appreciated!
Thanks!
