TH Stone, Cape San Blas Wipe Out

Last March we spent four days at TH Stone State Park on Cape San Blas in the Florida Panhandle. Quiet miles of sugar sand right off the campground, nice facilities. Loved it. Booked 13 days this coming March. The recent hurricane apparently wiped out the campground, roads, dunes, etc. We are sick. I can't imagine them putting things back together and even if they did the natural beauty has to be a long time coming.

We are looking for alternatives. All the nice State parks in other areas are long booked up. Commercial parks are not our thing for an extended kick back couple of weeks. Texas, Loisiana, Savana? Suggestions? We are retired so timing is flexible.

Padre Island is nice. Boondocking but but nice place to visit. RV dump station and a water filling station are available.

I have reservations for T.H.Stone for New Years week. Haven’t heard from the campground yet, but..... Now, I’ve also got reservations for Fort Pickens National Park. A beautiful park, half price with the “geezer pass” and close to the Navy Air Museum. Stayed there last New Years and camped with evenings in the 20’s! Good luck!

Occasionally Ft. Pickens campground would have to be evacuated due to flooding of the road that leads to it during storms. A portion of that road has been re-routed but I'm not sure if this has entirely solved the problem.

Have spent many fun times at ST Josephs Peninsula State park (its other name) and also have friends that have a home there and say things are pretty bad and a recovery is expected to be slow in coming. No sure of anything else on that side unless you go more toward Pensacola but as you mention will be tough to find availability.

Safe travels,

Steve

You might consider options on the Atlantic side. Fort Clinch, Little Talbot, and Anastasia come to mind.
