again generator again

I just came across a deal that seems to good to be true (yeah, I know what they say...) on a 3000 watt lightweight generator. Anyone have any familiarity with Boliy generators? http://www.rec-direct.com/2009/produ...Generator.html

For those of us with 19s who want a generator that can fire off the AC, this does look tempting.

Re: again generator again

Looks very similar to our Yamaha 2400is - which does run our 15k BTU A/C.. My only issue with off brands is the possible "fixing" of the generator.. at least with honda & yamaha you can rely on the warranty and there's a established chain of dealers capable of fixing.. we bought ours at Cabalas.. we like a lot.

Re: again generator again

We dry camp alot with a large group of people and most have inexpensive generators that seem to be quite reliable. The problem is the noise. The cheap ones are VERY loud compared to a Yamaha or Honda even when they are 70' away in the bush. It's always a relief when they are turned off.
My 1000 watt Yamaha (I don't have air) purrs away quietly in the background. I hardly know it's there.

Re: again generator again

Hi Bruce

That is an interesting looking unit, we purchased a cheap 3500 (under $400.00) from Costco
it is heavy and not the quietest but we only take it if its going to be really hot and we want
to use the AC. Other then that we are going to buy a Honda or Yamaha 1000 to use the rest of the time
they are super quiet and will do everything else.

Have you made a decision on generators yet?

Re: again generator again

Hi Doug and group-

I see a Yamaha 2400 for our 19' sometime in the future. Strong enough to start and run our AC, quiet, dependable, and at 77 lbs., something I can lift into the back of the pickup. I'll probably start cruising the net late winter/early spring for the best price, and post what I find.

Re: again generator again

Hi Bruce

Just to let you know I tried the Yamaha 2400 and it wouldn't run the AC
which was to bad as it was a great medium size generator.
I also talked to a Carrier tech and he said that 3000 watts is pretty much
needed to start and run our units as per their testing.

Re: again generator again

Well, shoot. Back to searching. 3000 watts and relatively lightweight... hopefully something will turn up, or come on the market. Thanks for the info, Doug.

Re: again generator again

Does the 17' have a smaller AC than the 19'? On our Scamp 16' my Honda 2000i would run the AC and am wondering if it will run the one one a 17 Escape.

Thanks!
Eric

Re: again generator again

The new Honda 3000 looks good, except for the "ouch" factor -- ~$2000. But, it is a Honda....
