Anybody have one of theose $600 trailer covers?

Fiberglass boats sit in salt water for years at a time. The top decks get the abuse. But...
With the PolyPro III cover, mildew, pollen, and bird droppings are on the outside of the cover. Just wash and dry and winterise your camper before wrapping up for the season. Industrial washing machines will clean the cover in the spring.

So -- for the time being, as we don't have a "shed" or place we can pull into/under ... should we not sweat leaving the Escape uncovered and in the wild blue yonder in the summer? And simply get the cover for the off season?

I can't imagine us taking the cover on and off all spring/summer long ... if the best course of action is to have it covered all the time we'll have to look at other options. But it seems like many of you do just let your hang out in the sunshine ...?

My trailer has sat out in the elements for 1 1/2 years now. Next spring we will give it a buffing and shine it up.

We have one of the covers from Escape and boy they are great.
Once back from a trip a quick wash and the cover goes on and
everything stays clean and no gelcoat deterioration.

They have zippers on both sides of the door so you can roll
up the cover, its then held in place with velcro straps so you
have full use of the door.

Our old Casita sat out in the desert in Arizona for 5 years before we bought it, and it met every definition of chalky. It never had more than an eggshell finish, even freshly washed and waxed and all the plastic parts had to be replaced because they were crumbling. I'm sure that was an extreme case, but I know oak tree sap and city dust can make the roof of your trailer splotchy black very quickly. We'll be getting a cover for our shiny new trailer.

I'd LOVE to have a pull under cover for Hokie!!!!! Guess I should get one designed, approved and up! Can't imagine trying to get one of those "slip overs" on a 5.0! But, I sure would like to save Hokie from looking like the 2 pictures below for a 2nd winter : - ( Can't be good on the finish and plastic pieces. She was warm inside though, because I keep a cube heater on minimum heat to keep the moisture from building up (and it allows me to go out and dream a little in the winter) : - )

Two years ago we had a heavy snowfall that broke a branch on the cedar and knocked out our power for three days.

A cold and snowy winter is forecast for this year and Toad is stowed under that same cedar.

Never mind the sap. I need some sleep.

I'm with Donna on this one --We spent $2700 on a 12'x26' bombproof (as in 65# snow load) carport for our 19, and are very happy with it. It's so strong, the crew was walking on the sheet metal roof to construct it. However, if you go with a carport, shop well -- some dealers are sleazy, and some products are junk.

We have one of the ShelterLogic ones that Donna mentioned. It works great but is now about 6 years old and will soon need a replacement fabric as it breaks down from the UV eventually.

Can the gelcoat be replenished easily, like at a car body shop?

Hi: HokieEscape...Dan; There are kit$ that you can get like PolyGlo, or Vert Glass that will rejuvinate chaulky fibergla$$. They are usually three step processes and very expensive/labour intensive. A cover that prevents having to do this would be a good idea IMHO!!!
As for re-gelcoating that's like going back to before your egg was hatched.
I'm not looking forward to waxing Our Escape Hatch as the roof is verrry chaulky. I was just up there to replace the sewer vent cap and once the Meguire's is finished, I'm going to add a coat of 303 Aero-Space protector to the surfaces. A cover would have been so much easier even tho we have indoor storage for the $#*^ season(4letter word). The summer sun is a killer Alf

Elizabeth even if you go with a cover or shelter, I think it is essential to keep your new Escape well waxed. I still use the one Consumer Report rated as best buy several years ago - NuFinish, as it is really easy to use, found most places and seems to last well. I just bought some 303 Protectant http://www.303products.com/shop303/i...protectant.cfm that is supposed to be very good at protecting plastics and other materials from UV damage. I plan to use it on all the plastic parts, especially those on the roof.

This will be my second year with a cover for our 19' that was bought from Reace. It works great!
The only problem is that the metal projection over the hot water heater wore a hole in the cover. This year I have put a temporary rubber bumper on the projection.

I do not have an RV but I wanted to get some sort of cover for my cars. I do not have a garage and I was wondering if there are any portable garages or temporary building of some kind that can be set up easily. I checked out the provided but I wanted to know if you have any recommendations.
