sticker shock called to get my trailer washed wax for the winter. $420+ he says traditional RVs do not require wax on the roof ours does increases the surface area
Its so hard to reach the roof to get a good coat of wax . I can wash it fine but wax is difficult.

Thanks Kate, makes me feel better when it takes days to clean and wax the trailer. Removing oxidation and waxing the 5.0TA is certainly a lot of work.

Last spring in the RV Park we were at in Arizona, a neighbor was having his big 5th wheel washed and waxed ( he leaves it there for the summer) he was paying $480.00. I asked what it would cost to do our 21, they said $420.00, same as you. I said no thanks. Did it when we got home.

I washed and waxed my trailer top to bottom, and it took about 4 hours straight. Sure look good afterwards though.

Try using Nu-Finish it’s a sealer and is much easier then wax.Click image for larger version

Wax is pretty darn easy. Wipe on, wipe off.

I bought Nu Finish, but then I read the directions. As I recall, you need to strip off all wax before applying. Since I use Simonize Wash 'N' Wax to clean the trailer, I figure I shouldn't use Nu Finish.

🤔4 hours, man I must be getting old. Just did mine took me 11 hours and I see I missed part of the roof. Do you use a buffer?

I use Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845 - protection is second to none. I've used it for years on my 82 Chris Craft and the gelcoat still looks new. Nothing seems to match it - water still beads after a year in the Texas sun.

You get what you pay for! Oh, and I use a PORTER-CABLE 7424XP orbital to apply and polish it.

yea I'm 5'2" and 62 years young- I cant reach the whole roof and being on a ladder that long is difficult. no problem with normal wash but to do a good job of waxing the roof is difficult.

For those with new trailers, wait at least 6 months before buffing to allow the gelcoat to cure. It's still green when you pick it up from Escape.

I did a lot of research on car wax, nufinish, and boat products after we bought our 21. From all the reading I did, it seemed like the easiest way to go would be 303 Multi-Surface Cleaner and then 303 Aerospace Protectant. After 3yrs of use, are trailer still looks new because the stuff works so well, is easy to use, and it's quick to clean the trailer so we don't skip it. We have been extremely happy with how easy it is to clean anything off any part the trailer (tree sap and most stains included - we do have a few pink stains on the awning it won't take off).

Since we had used a product with wax in it once or twice, we cleaned all the surfaces (awning, vent & a/c covers, etc.) with the Cleaner. Then, we did the whole thing again with the Protectant (we did NOT use this on the solar panel). We don't "buff" the Protectant on; we just spray on and wipe till dry.

Even though the Protectant is water soluble and says it should be applied every 3-5 weeks, we don't. As far as we can tell, neither rainstorms while camping nor driving through them seems to affect its performance. The trailer is stored in an enclosed unit when not in use.

Even after weeks on the road (highway, gravel, forest service, etc.), when we get home most of the bugs on the front come right off with a garden hose stream of water. What doesn't, gets a spray of the Cleaner, after spraying the half dozen spots or so, we go back to first one with a non-abrasive white scrubby, rinse again, and apply the Protectant on any area that got washed. Even the wheel wells aren't hard to clean (tar included).

Since the first application, we only use the Cleaner to spot clean what doesn't come clean with a garden hose and non-abrasive white scrubby. Then apply the Protectant.

That's what works for us...

We use 303 as well, on our 2015 17A. after 3 yrs. we're convinced it's the way to go.
