Our Fridge Doors Flew Off

On a recent trip both doors came off of our RMD 8555. Miraculously there was nothing broken(just a mess) however in researching the cause I found this report about Dometic doors needing an adjustment to the lower hinge as the bushing will wear over time due to the weight of the door and contents stored there. If not adjusted premature wear can happen to the gasket and the door can come off.

Packing tip, only put light beer on the door.

All went well with adjusting; 7/8 wrench for the bottom and 10mm for top let me raise the nuts the amount needed. Also put a small shim under the lower hinge arm where it rests on a ledge similar to what the table sits on when in bed position. There is a small round plastic tab for the lower leading edge of the door to sit on when closed that I put a washer on. Lastly I figured out there was still a plastic film covering the control buttons that I removed that had the yellow decal re: reset of fridge.

We don't put much in the door but going forward will store less while in transit.

How far off was yours? the play on the top hinge on mines about the thickness of a dime.

All total considering the shim and thread adjustment I would say 3-4 dimes. With both doors open push up from the bottom of the lower door on the hinge side to see how much play you have.
