There's a lot of controversy over this as well as his height. I saw him in person at the Mark Hopkins in SF once. He was very, very tall so I don't understand the question about him wearing lifts either, but apparently he did. Golly, just another Hollywood legend down the tubes...

When in 1950-51 we moved from NJ to a town on the California coast, Rio Grande, to be with dad, who had been recalled for a third hitch in the army, (boy was he pissed)--- I didn't know Frankie Sinatra from Howdy Doodie, but I knew John Wayne.

There's a restaurant on Central Ave in the Duke City that's got probably a dozen paintings of him hanging.

We had a scenic 6 day trip (stopped at St Louis arch, Grand Canyon, painted desert), and arrived in Hollywood to stop on our trip north. Three city bumpkins we were, we all ran to look at the Pacific Ocean. When we checked into our motel I saw a marque with "Joey Bishop and Frankie Sinatra, tonite at 8 pm". We could not wait. My mom loved Mr. Sinatra and my dad thought Joey Bishop was the funniest comedian.
Upon arrival we were seated and then the lights go dim. Both Joey and Frankie were burlesque performers with tassels spinning in the black light. Needless to say we did not stay for the second performance. We did see John Wayne's size 7 boot in the star studded sidewalk!!
Great story about the burlesque show Jim. Of course you know what they say, "Show pictures or it never happened".

That is how glycol works, but I think every automotive antifreeze container I've seen gives appropriate mixing ratios. It makes no more sense to me to use straight glycol than to wash dishes in straight dishwashing liquid with no water... even though the dishwashing liquid bottle doesn't explain that straight soap would not work well.

The best ratio for freeze protection is usually given as 70% glycol (so 30% water), so sure, at least 20% water is good, but nothing under 30% water makes any sense. Best boil-over protection is about 50/50.

RV/plumbing antifreeze, on the other hand, is normally already diluted... and it is not just (propylene) glycol.

Read the label.
Yes! Even automotive coolant (antifreeze) is now often already at the right mixture, both to keep people from messing up the concentration, and to avoid damaging impurities that come with tap water.

I was blown away when I saw his footprints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Pretty tiny for a big guy.

Re: Hollywood legends... but-but-but --size 7 boots? Nooo way. Do they even make 'em that small? The man had to be 6-ft tall.

Now you can understand why John Wayne had that funny walk, like he was going to fall over. That large body on those tiny feet…….

He walked funny due to the antifreeze he had consumed earlier in the day. Should have added %20 water. . .........

Answer from Camco

just to put some closure to this, here's what I got from Camco the other day about the anti-freeze:

Hi Mr. Webster,

The antifreeze will be in a solid state at about 8 to 10 degrees. However, it does not expand or burst until -50. Thank you.

Also, the label says it is not to be diluted with water.
