Generator reminder
It's recommended that your generator be run from time to time during the off season. I got out the Honda this morning a did just that. Ran it for about half an hour. I also put fuel stabilizer in gas for the generator, the trimmer, the lawn mower, the chain saw .... of course none of these are the same mix as another, so I have four gas cans and always have fuel left over at the end of the season.

Pour your unused fuel into your car/truck. A couple of gallons of mixed fuel will not make a difference to your engine. Probably best done on a full take of gas in the truck/car.
Even if you use Stabil I would recommend starting out the year with fresh gas.

I've had 3 mechanics, all of whom I respect, tell me to use Seafoam http://www.seafoamsales.com/motor-treatment.html instead of Stabil as I always have. Also, with almost all the gas in the Midwest now having ethanol added, there seems to be less agreement about draining the fuel system vs using stabilizers. Some now contend that the drying properties of the ethanol damage components when they are drained and dried out. My small engine mechanic said - use fresh gas rather than drain. I asked him how to do that when it sits all winter and he said - "there's the problem." So I sure don't know anymore, I have just been adding Seafoam to all my small engine gas as soon as I buy it and hope for the best!
And when it gets to some reasonable temperature here in WI again, I will startup that Honda - thanks for the reminder~

And for those new to generator maintenance, in addition to running it at least once a month, plug in something that will create a load to "exercise" the generator.
I have downsized from the Onan 4000 in the former class C motorhome to a Yamaha 1000 generator and could not be more pleased. That Onan was a pain. And loud.

I have had a few generators,
they like to be on the edge of being brown out.
IE heavy loads.
The invertor generators are nice.

pure-gas.org
lists stations in US and Canada selling ethanol-free gas. My lawn mower guy told me it is better for small 4 and 2-cycle engines.

Baglo, you recently commented about how complex solar sounded. I have not had to do anything to my panels this winter! They are just quietly waiting to begin turning the Sun's energy into electricity again!

Baglo. Why didn't you post this in November then we'd have remembered to put the stabilizer in before the winter.
