If I recall correctly, the article mentioned the steel cords in radials and the lime in cement, but I'll try and find it.

Key word is "synthetic". Made from petroleum byproducts ( as is asphalt? ).
Synthetic rubber, invariably a polymer, is any type of artificial elastomer mainly synthesised from petroleum byproducts. An elastomer is a material with the mechanical (or material) property that it can undergo much more elastic deformation under stress than most materials and still return to its previous size without permanent deformation. About 15 billion kilograms of rubbers are produced annually, and of that amount two thirds is synthetic.

Actually the key word here is "rubber" as in 'synthetic rubber'. Synthetic or otherwise it is still called and referred to and defined as rubber.

Yes but, synthetic rubber doesn't come from trees. The premise was that wood would protect the tire somehow, because they are from the same source.
It follows that most tires should be stored on asphalt since they are from the same source - petroleum.
And, then there is, that they are now making road surfaces from ground up tires.
Wait. This is beginning to read like a thread on that other forum.

Hi: All... I just want to make sure that from the ground up...I'm Retired. 21 days to go. Alf p.s. I always ran the 5.0 tires up on two planks for storage...but not this winter!!!
