Carefully, very carefully. Seriously, I pry in the notch at the edge and there's been times when I've thought that I was going to damage them. But, so far, no damage has been done.

And if a screw driver don't do it, of course there's a tool for every task

Lug nut cover
When I had the plastic covers on the 19, I went to harbor freight on someone’s advice and for about $10 I got a set of four plastic
Chisels. They are very hard plastic and hold
their edge well. You can use the palm of your hand and thump the narrowest chisel blade under the edge of a cover and it will lift it a little. I think as noted there is a small notch to get you started. Then pull the chisel out and move around the cover. Pretty soon the molded nut covers inside will slide off the lug nuts and the cover will come off. I never marred the paint on the wheel with the plastic chisel and I used them judiciously to peel off dried caulk on a occasion too.

I bought a very small blue crowbar (or pry bar) from Home Depot for something like $4. Looks like Myron’s in his post above. Fits perfectly in the little slot on the plastic cover. Bought it after getting frustrated with screwdriver scratching wheel. It works great. Keep it in our tug glove box for easy access.

I have a cheap trim removal tool set - like this one but not the same brand and maybe even cheaper - which is what I use for this sort of thing.

No, but...
did you know that dentist's picks (or cheap imitations of them) are popular for getting into annoying little corners of automotive stuff?

Also you can buy new covers on Amazon that are chrome covered, still plastic.

This works perfect. The plastic ball protects the white paint and the metal flange fits the groove perfectly:
