Gotta kinda laugh I hang with a lot of Casita owners, they're switching to black spare tire covers because when the white gets funky, it looks like a dirty diaper. (Their words not mine). Spare tire covers last about five years, no matter the color. Not a huge expense either way. But dirty diaper? Not on my beautiful trailer. YMMV

I think the last time I was at the showroom the spare tire covers were $22 Canadian. I think I put our white one on a free tarp. Didn’t the “early” black ones said “made in British Columbia? “. The two black ones we have now say “proudly made in Canada”. We are currently camped in South Dakota in a COE CG for $8.00 on the Geezer Pass.
Showers, electric, dump station, very nice and clean.

Dave,

When you rotate tires, what is the pattern? I don't remember if the trailer tires are radials or not, but I thought that on a tow vehicle you rotated radials on the same side, swapping the front and the back. I would assume it is the same for a trailer. So would be curious as to what your pattern is.

Reace had told me front to back only for rotating, if you want to do such.

And, it's really easy with only one axle on my 17B.
Given that for most the tires normally age out before there is any evidence of tread loss, I'm content to leave them as is.

I have been putting the spare on the right rear, right rear goes to right front. Right front to left front, left front to left rear and left rear goes onto spare holder. These tires are not directional and I don’t feel it makes any difference. I’m sure 99 people will tell me I’m wrong on this. I’ll get my Pat Benetar record out and play it while I read the responses.” Hit me with your best shot” . But these tires are sure wearing even after two years. Adjusted my brakes this past week, along with rotation, torqued the lug nuts at 95 ft lbs, checked the inflation and drove 400 miles today. And caught three nice catfish Thursday morning before 8 am. Not bad for an old man

YMMV I wear them out before they age out. At least 40,000 miles on the 19 marathons first set. Do not know how many miles Jack has on the first set of marathons on the 21 when we got it but in the interest of starting fresh and all matched up we got new Endurance two years ago this month. All are looking good at 6/32 yet. Probably make about end of season in 2020 and be at 3 or 4/32 and get new ones to start 2021.

Speaking of spare. Did this today. Seems like a good place to carry the thing. Later placed the Escape cover back on the tire but no more free advertising.

Thanks, Dave. I probably have about 40,000 miles on my tires over the past 5 years. I haven't rotated them at all, but they seem to be wearing pretty evenly, and not much wear at that. On the other hand, my spare tire has exactly 0 miles on it, and it would be nice to rotate tires if only to get some miles on it before it ages out.

We're headed up to a COE CG on Lake Hartwell toward the north end of the Savannah for three days. I have never been able to get my wife to understand limited storage tank capacity. We'll have water and electric but no sewer and she washes dishes like we're back home and depending on the campground shower situation I might have to dump the grey tank. So I am ready.

Signs in the outhouses at a forest service site I frequent prohibits dumping grey or black.

My spare has the same mileage and is at least 11 years old. Looks brand new. No evidence of rot on the outside. I'm gambling, but I do have BCAA RV PLUS.
Other issue is that it is load range C ( max. 50 psi ) and the tires on the trailer are load range D ( max. 65 psi ). Hoping it's OK for a short run.

Sometimes folks even think that a spare spare is a good idea.

Actually what looks like the spare spare was badly damaged by the flailing cords of the blown tire. Maybe he should have had a spare for the spare spare.

Hey Glenn
It's a COE campground and they have a dump station. I won't have to move the trailer.

If the tread pattern isn't directional (and no ST tire is, as far as I have seen) the tire isn't directional. Back well into the last century, it was important to keep the same rotational direction once the tire had been used, but that doesn't matter any more... with modern tires. Tires are swapped in position to even out wear. Of course, an ST tire design could be unchanged for decades...

JNFROMBIGT, you confused me at first when you said Lake Hartwell and Savannah until I realized you were talking about river. You will be passing right through my area so will be sure to honk if I see an Escape .

Enjoy the journey and safe travels.
