Slippery than snot. Be safe. Reach but don't over reach. You SHOULD be able to reach both sides from each side to the middle. I use a mop on the roof of my Scamp. Put on the wax, wrap with a t-shirt and wipe off.

Plywood likely to scratch gelcoat.
I use a ladder with foam on the ladder rails to protect the trailer.

I was using a step ladder last year so I wouldn't have to rest anything on the gelcoat and almost well actually did fall off over reaching. I will use Glens idea this year .

I use one of those little Giant type ladders. When I apply wax to the roof I do not buff the wax, just leave it as is.

? About waxing. Is all waxing done by hand? Is there some tool out there I can buy to make things easier? And I think I read that someone was waxing the thing 4 times a year. Yikes! That seems like a lot.

Our 17b will be living outside in the BC rain. How many times a year are people who live in rainy climates waxing ?

I use Simonize Wash 'n' Wax and probably wash it every couple of months. I have applied a proper wax a couple of times.

I'm a bit anal when it comes to cleaning and waxing the cars and trailer, but 4 times a year has me beat. I use one of these, although there are cheaper brands around.

Amazon.com: Flex XC3401VRG Orbital Action Polisher: Home Improvement

I use it with Mequiars RV Cleaner Wax as it takes a bit of work to do the clean part, wipe it off by hand. Everyone seems to have their favorite products. On my 20' stickie, I try and clean and wax once a year, it lives outside in New England.

Michael,
I would be leery of applying concentrated loads from kneeling or standing on any FG trailer lid. I suppose some of the more "square" shaped eggs have plywood backing, so that would allow walking around up there. I have accessed my Scamp lid with ladder placed almost touching the side, and reaching out with a power rotary buffer to apply rubbing compound and then hand wax for protection. The Scamp may be a little narrower than the Escape. Using a pole like Donna suggested would give you all the reach you would need in any case.
Off the subject, but may be of interest. Newer trailers that still shine can be protected with wax to help the finish last longer. Older oxidized ones will need to be rubbed out with compound to restore some gloss, then protected with wax. The wax alone will not provide a lasting shine. Wax rarely lasts more than a month when outdoors in the elements, so easily applied products are a winner.
Square shaped eggs?
