Not counting the time to clean up after and dispose of the solvent.

Clean up is actually pretty easy. All you have dirtied, other than you hands, is a basin you rinse them in. I actually use a small pot to clean the bearings in. I put the waste in a jug that gets all the other solvent waste, especially those for finishing material. Once every few years it just goes to the local fire hall with all my other toxic waste materials. Funny this is mentioned, as I just did this with a bin full of stuff yesterday. First time in probably 3-4 years.

I am with Dave on this. I think one of the issues for many is, is that they see this as some highly technical, difficult job. But, you can't really give yourself a simpler task to undertake than greasing bearings. It takes longer to jack the tire, take the wheel off, and then put it back on, than it does to inspect and repack the bearings. One has to jack up the tires to adjust the brakes anyway.

The warranty dept sent me all my axle information they have ,purchased in Canada, using my serial axle number .. So I am a happy camper now . Before Dexter still venders wanted diameter seal information etc, so I ended up calling Dexter . I can use the ez lube double lip seal too. I even now have my bearing , brake and part schematic number and pictures , sent from Dexter . Pat
Pretty much anyone can do this bearing check and regreasing . I have done it many times myself . I like to make sure for my application I have the right parts . I now know that I do . It would of been nice for the manufacturer to have supplied that information with my trailer . I did the footwork and shared how you can get your axle identification because no one else could tell me how to get it . That came from Dexter when I inquired and they kindly sent me that information . Pat

Actually, back in 2013, I posted bearing information from Reace, and it was made a sticky.
And, that started a discussion of what was correct.

Here it is:

Given that it was inconclusive, I saw no reason to post it.
Some disagreed with what I copied from Reace. Nobody ever posted new information.
If you went to your local auto parts store and told them you had a Dexter #10 they would be able to pull up the numbers and supply the parts. That's what my mechanic does.

And, that's what the Search function on this site is for. I used the Google site search at the bottom of the Search box and entered "bearing numbers" to locate the post I cited.

I took some old gas to the recycling centre here and I had to give them my gas container as well. I don't think they'd accept gas in an old milk jug and they didn't have a container to transfer it to ( or wouldn't ).

Your Welcome Jim . I did scan it but it was too large and it wasn't accepted . I took a picture with camera . They also sent me the wheel breakdown etc. but you can get that from their website . I put my sticker on the information they sent me so I don't lose it . Pat

If you save it as a PDF, it should post fine.

That's weird, because I have posted PDFs here before.

Maybe back off on the quality a wee bit?

You can not send attachments via p/m, so ask Donna for an alternate email address.
