Wheel Bearings/ Brakes

How often are owners repacking the wheel bearings and getting the brakes serviced on their trailers? Suspect mine is about due and just wanted to get a general sense of where people are at on this? Also where are people taking them to get the work done?

i think it might depend on how much you use it. i do it every two years but i don't use it as much as some do. My horse trailer every two to three years very light use.

I've had mine done every couple years by an auto mechanic for half the price of the local RV shop. I just call him up and find out if he's in a slow period and will do it for me. Have original bearings, so repack and adjust brakes comes to about $60.
Last couple times I called him he's not wanted the business and doesn't think they need doing so soon.

By the book it's every 12 months or 12k miles for the bearings and it actually says to adjust the brakes "to proper clearance" every 3 months or 3000 miles.

I had both done the first summer I had the trailer, maybe 7-8k, then both again this summer (2 years later), somewhere around 18k later.

Bearing service

Escape trailers repacked bearings around 30,000 miles...I replaced bearings and seals at 50,000 miles...the old bearings showed no discernable wear but put on new ones anyway because I had already purchased them. Escape Trailers don't service bearings anymore but Reese said it was not too difficult to do...he was right. My trailer is a 2010 and we Snowbird in it 4 months each year and have done it for 8 years.
