Wheel bearings / brakes 17B

Just got back from my mechanic.
Repacked outer wheel bearings, renew hub seals and adjusted brakes. Cost me $59.47. The same at the local RV shop would have been double that.
These bearings are still very good condition ( original to the trailer in 2008 ).
Last had them done March 2010.

Bearings ( inner ) L68149 or 129200
Bearings ( outer ) L44649 or 129000

Seals 58846 or 158800 or SE22
Axle #10 TorFlex
Brake shoes 10 X 3/4

I make an appointment, but then I call ahead to make sure he has the bay open and the lot isn't plugged with cars. Not sure if he wants to do trailers or if it's just a favour as a long time customer.

Does "Seals 58846 or 158800 or SE22" mean you have three different seals that were replaced, or are those three different part numbers for the same one seal? Thanks.

Glen did the bearings have a name on them ? Timken and sk are common bearing names, just wondering.

No idea. I think the parts supplier should know, from the parts number.
I'm hoping to get a list of parts nos. for a sticky.

If we were to have the bearing company along with the numbers from the old bearings anyone who has access to a bearing shop like BC bearing in edmonton could just buy the bearings and seals ahead of time. I think when I service mine when the snow is gone I will get the numbers and have spares with me. They are ushauly really cheap from these places, when I did my last trailer I seem to remember 30 bucks for everything.

Only two seals were replaced @ $4.05 each.
The bearings are original to the trailer and were in good condition after 4 1/2 years so I don't think you'll be needing bearings on a 2012 trailer.
Anyway, the reason I gave three numbers for the bearings are that those are the numbers used by three different companies, so I think the parts supplier will know, just from the number.

I won't need new bearings, but I have to machine the brake drums so I might as well pop the bearings out and re-grease them and i will get numbers for future reference, Having a spare set in the tool box is not a bad idea.

I heard back from the factory, for the Escape 19'
Small inner bearing pt# L44649
Large outer bearing pt# L68149
Seal pt# 171255TB

These are the same as for the axle on the Escape 17, interesting except reversed from Glenn's numbers. Mine came from Reace, Glenn can you verify your numbers? I guess it doesn't make any difference, they will only go on one way. correct?

I will email for clarification. One issue is different numbers for different manufacturers.

bearing cone L44649 and bearing race or cup
L44610
bearing cone L68149 and bearing race L68111

Now, what is a "race" and where does it fit in the axles, are you referring to the seals or dust covers? Does anyone have a schematic?

Dexter 2K / 2.2K Axle Hub Parts example !
The race is pressed or driven into the hub. The bearing is slid on to the spindle and seats into the race. The spindle is on the left side of the picture.

OK, I understand now. Can anyone recommend a bearing/seal or race installation kit that one can install with use of a hammer? Will this work ? Bearing Race & Seal Driver Set Lisle #12600

I think I'm going to order 4 sets of bearings, 4 inner grease seals, the driver set and the wheel bearing packer from Chuck here on the forum. What about grease?

I wonder if you are getting over paranoid.

Quite frankly, the thing that's going to kill bearings is dirt. If you repack them properly every couple of years with good grease and make sure the seal is good, to keep out dirt, then they should last for a long time.

I had a 72 Boler for 22 years and ran it on the same bearings with no problem ........ and I used to load it to the hilt when I went out camping.
