winterizing

After doing all the winterizing steps to #4 of the manual where do you fill the anti freeze? Can you do it inside at the faucets and toilet or outside of the trailer at the city line?

Welcome Bob,
Can you be a bit more specific on Step#4, there are quite a few winterizing threads here. Which step are you referring to? Thanks.

Thanks I am referring to winterizing with anti freeze only. Talked with Escape yesterday and said I would be o k if I added the anti freeze to the faucets and toilet and running the pump should suffice if I followed the manual up to that point. I was confused when the manual stated a long funnel was needed for the anti freeze meaning it would have to be put in from the outside water point. Also I am aware that the water pump is a dry pump, so would it circulate the anti freeze if I drained everything, used the by pass valve, and just poured te mix down the toilet and and faucets? Thanks!

I'm under the impression that when you say pour mix down the faucet, you are referring to the drain in the sink, known as the "P" trap, similarly there is one in the shower and bath sink and a little in the toilet. These steps all keep drains from freezing. The supply lines also need to be addressed.

Thanks Jim that's what I meant. Can I address the supply lines by running the water pump to circulate the other lines with the anti freeze?

Yes, but you need to either pour a couple of gallons into your fresh tank(this means a lot of waste) or get an E-Z-Winerterizing kit that hooks up to your pump and you only put antifreeze in your lines vs your tank and lines. Another option is a hand pump (this is a 2 person job, one outside pumping and other inside opening/closing faucets). Here are some links Camco 36543 RV Pump Converter Winterizing Kit : Amazon.com : Automotive
Camco 36003 RV Hand Pump Kit : Amazon.com : Automotive
Finally there is a third option, if you have an oil less compressor, air. Then you will need this
Amazon.com: Camco 36143 RV Blow Out Plug with Brass Quick Connect: Automotive keep it at 30 psi.
When you are done one more thing, DO NOT FORGET THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE BEHIND THE FESH WATER FILL LOCATION>

Thanks Jim,which model do you prefer? Also are you referring to the pressure relief valve located outside by the anode?

No, outside where you hook up the fresh water hose, there is a screen(sediment filter) which you remove carefully and behind is the relief valve, push in carefully and it should spit out some water. Re-install the filter and cap. The other pressure relief valve, the one you mentioned is on the hot water heater, it is a safety valve in case the water gets too hot, blow off steam. It can be opened when you are emptying the water heater to release the pressure and speed up the discharge. It is kept closed.
