Am I understanding this right, Jim? Do you think tandem leaf spring axles are an improvement over the tandem Torflex of your 21'? Or do you mean an improvement over the single Torflex of the original 5.0?

I was just paraphrasing your comment Brian "Yes, some load sharing between multiple axles helps ride, and a Torflex system doesn't do that".
This implies that the new 5.0 tandem rides better than the stock torsion tandem, correct?

Thanks for the clarification, Jim.
The load sharing is only one of several aspects of suspension system behaviour that determines overall performance; it might not even be the most important one. A Torflex is independent while the leaf springs are on a beam axle, the rubber springs of the Torflex self-damp better than a leaf spring pack, and so on.
All the sharing advantage means is that this connected tandem set of leaf-spring suspensions will work better than separate (not connected by a rocker device) tandem leaf-spring suspensions.

I understand, in other words it could have been worse...

Are shock absorbers installed? Every leaf-spring suspension I've seen has shocks as part of the system.

I have two trailers with leaf springs, and neither has shocks. Neither are travel trailers, though that should make no difference. The both ride rough stuff at least as good as the tow vehicle does.
I bet with a single axle, the need might be higher though, as with two axles working together, much of the 'rough' effect one wheel will get, the other will balance it out.

The TA does not have shocks, neither did my previous travel trailer.

The 5.0 TA does not have shocks. This was discussed extensively, starting at post #121 of the thread Photo mock-up and floorplan for new 5.0. Perhaps some opinions have changed since that earlier discussion, but otherwise the situation is unchanged.

Hi: All... Reace included equalizers in the 5.0TA suspension system. They seem to do an adequate job as I think the 5.0TA rides better than the 5.0. Both are dampened by rubber, but the 5.0TA's external rubbers are replaceable... I think!!! Alf

Padlin mentioned in post #17 that the rockers in the 5.0 TA suspension are Dexter's E-Z Flex. Instead of just being rigid, these are two-part devices with rubber between the parts. That doesn't mean the there is any rubber damping of the motions of the steel springs, or even damping of the rocking between the two axles.
I'm sure the E-Z Flex soften the ride, since they add springs in series (when two springs are placed in series, the combination is softer than either spring would be by itself). The additional motion allowed by the E-Z Flex is damped by the rubber, but the motion of the leaf springs is not.
I think that the inclusion of E-Z Flex is a nice touch; I don't know if it was included from the first 5.0 TA.
