5 cubic foot refrigerator verses 6 cubic foot

Hello again,

We had decided to get the 6 cubic foot refrigerator however, as we are getting an oven for our Escape 19, I am wondering if we should reconsider getting the 5 cubic foot refrigerator. Does anyone have this refrigerator, and if so, how do you like it?

I don't remember your story Jennifer, so forgive me. But RV refrigerators have an better chance of maintaining cool temperature if it's not PACKED. Freezers on the other hand do better when it's jammed.

So... are you big refrigerator users and protein-dairy need to be kept cool? Without knowing THAT, the choice you need to make, is up to you...

I'm a solo traveler, LOVE my 6cu refrigerator...

Thanks Donna.
Just trying to figure out if we will need more storage space.
Appreciate the help.

This is such a personal choice so only you can figure out what will work. I get by fine with my little three-cubic-foot refer. But as a solo traveler, I can pack at least seven frozen protein portions (single-serving meat/fish/chicken) in the freezer and get by for a week. Dairy fills the door and the two racks hold the fresh produce. I don't need any more refer space.

Edited: But I come from a backpacking/tenting background so I don't need to haul every mustard/ketchup/condiment foodstuff ever created. As long as I have my fresh veggies and parsley/cilantro along, I'm good.

We get along with our 4.3 fine and have a oven . We always bring a cooler along also . Only you know what you really need . Always can get supplies when on the road or get a meal out if traveling and don't want to cook . Pat

Don't forget you can store stuff in the oven as well when not in use

We have not received our new 19' yet but we went with the 5.0 fridge. Although I have not seen the new ones side by side yet what appears larger on the 6.0 is a much larger freezer. From studying the pictures of both, the actual fridge area seems about the same even with the freezer inside the fridge on the 5.0. The fridge door on the 5.0 is larger than the fridge door on the 6.0.

Anyway we decided to go with the 5.0 so we still have the cabinet above the fridge for storage.

All this is just my observation from studying pictures and like I said you would almost have to measure them side by side to know for sure what you are gaining. We had a 4.3 in our previous 19' and did fine with it.

The new Americana 5.0 is the same fridge we had in our Casita except it was a 4.0 and it worked great and we loved it.

We have a 19' with 6ft refrigerator and an oven (no microwave). Typically travelled with 2 adults and 1or2 teens and have never lacked for storage space. We did get Escape to put 2 drawers under the pantry adjacent to the fridge, since with the oven there was no room for drawers on the sink side of the kitchen.

We had a 5 cf in our 19. At first we were worried, as we carry a lot of frozen food for our dog that is raw fed, but it turned out that it worked just fine for use. When taking off for a long trip, it was right full, but we never suffered for room.

We did use a cooler for the bulk of our drinks.
