One of the best things we did was add the tall cabinet on the passenger side at the steps. We had shelves put in...3 I think. We had the shelves spaced so that our coffeemaker, toaster, and crock pot would fit in the bottom, and our satellite receiver would fit in the top. The other shelf is spaced evenly between the other two.

That's interesting. If it is correct (and not just a misunderstanding), it suggests that the top step is a useful shear panel which helps reduce distortion of the front of the trailer, likely twisting rather than bending. It makes me wonder how Reace and company realized that retaining this panel is prudent - analysis in design? early testing?

and what about those who opened up this area for extra storage, are their units more suspect to perhaps stress cracks....?

I thought others may have the same questions so I'm sharing some of the conversation here. Not as exciting perhaps as the screenplay for an episode of Sherlock but helpful I hope for those of you sharpening your pencils for the build sheet.

SJK: Is the area under all three stairs accessible by an interior hinged lid?
ESC: The bottom two stairs do open for storage however the top step is part of the structural integrity of the trailer and does not open.

SJK: What about outside access to any of the spaces under the stairs?
ESC: There is a storage hatch under the nose of the trailer, however, this does not connect to any existing storage inside the trailer.

SJK: Is there outside access available on the passenger side to the lower cabinet by the stairs?
ESC: Yes, please see photo attached. This is Standard
Attachment 20444

SJK: What are the Sand Pads and what are they used for?
ESC: These are used to create more surface area on your stabilizer jacks.

SJK: How are the window blinds attached in the new frameless window design. Do you have pictures?
ESC: Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures, however, they are installed the same way as they were in the previous style of windows. Perhaps someone on the forum has posted some?

SJK: How much fabric is required for custom interior?
Esc: Custom Fabric (Single Fabric $100, Additional Fabrics $50/each) 5.6m or 6.1yds * Please note fabrics with a repeating pattern will require the amount to be doubled

SJK:. How much fabric would be needed for just the valances? I want to provide a separate fabric for cushions and valances.
ESC: You will require 2.2 yds. of fabric for the valances. You can delete this amount from the total required for your trailer.

SJK: Is there a stainless steel kitchen sink option?
ESC: This is standard. See attached photo.
Attachment 20442

SJK: Also requesting the addition of a light switch by the door to operate interior overhead.
ESC: This is not standard, it is $75 to add a switch.

SJK: Requesting the addition of an exterior water shut off valve for just toilet water supply.
ESC: Cost: $25.

SJK: requesting cooktop be rotated 90 degrees to facilitate more counter space. ESC Cost $50

SJK Requesting the cabinet/counter space on the passenger side of the bed beside the stairs be made into a long cabinet (like the closet opposite it on the other side of the stairs).
ESC: I have attached a photo of what I think you are looking for. Can you confirm if this is correct.
SJK: Yes. Waiting for cost·
Attachment 20443

SJK: Requesting no shelves in closet but a bit of added reinforcement so if I change my mind later, shelves can be added safely.
ESC: Are you referring to the cabinet below the microwave or the one on the driver side at the top of the stairs?
SJK: Driver Side Top of Stairs. Waiting for cost.

SJK: What is the size of the side seating area without the U shaped dinette Length and Width of the seat?
What is the size of the seat for the U shaped portion Length and Width of the seat?
Also what is the size of the dining room table?
I am considering a Dicor or Springfield table leg to replace the two standard legs.
ESC: TBD, we should have a completed 5.0TA to measure soon.
Is the single handle faucet standard? Thanks.

This is an image of the toilet shut-off valve Chris installed in his 5.0TA. It's inside the hatch, on the back wall which faces the bathroom

I'm still mulling that top step. I see it as a completely framed box with a lid. I borrowed this picture from Chris' modifications

Hi: Donna D... I'm thinking the attached "L" shaped ply wood step would be more rigid and less flexible than just the 1X2 framing with a hinged ply panel. Besides... more storage under there just adds to the tongue weight... and lord knows we don't need more of THAT!!! Alf

Yes the top adds rigidity to the enclosure, like a storage container becomes more solid with the top in place.

Not certain. Sarah from Escape didn't specify but sent that photo in answer to my question regarding stainless steel sink....

That certainly works for a plastic tote. Wood can flex, but not to the degree that plastic does, especially with interior framing.

You're also adding a solid bottom to the opening that didn't exist with the solid top. Your tote had a top but no bottom, now it has a bottom and an abbreviated top.

I believe the single handle stock faucet is the same in all the models, at least in the ones I saw in Chilliwack.

Why?

What is the reason for all of the interest in the toilet shut-off valve?

The reason I have seen given is to allow water to the rest of the trailer in the case of a toilet failure.

Do toilets fail often enough to make this worth even $25?

Has anyone ever had a toilet failure when this would have been useful?

Why not a shut-off valve for the shower or sink?

Because it’s a drag when you are four days into a two week trip and your ultra-reliable Thetford toilet valve takes a dump and starts leaking for no apparent reason. (I now carry a spare). Scott

I think the toilet valve is the weak link in the water system. If the black water tank fills up, during the night or while you're away for the day.... you'll have a huge stinky mess. If the gray water tank fills up, it will be disgusting, but at least there won't be toilet paper, etc. to clean up.

Here's a hilarious story from some friends of mine: Bathroom flood - Fiberglass RV

There have been a few instances that I've read about here over the last couple years. As the toilet looks and sounds like a real hassle to work on I figure it's cheap insurance. Cost $8 if you already have a crimper and clamps.

Chances are those of us with the valve are a pretty small minority of those with Escapes. It's not a big deal one way or the other.

I assume because the toilet valve is much more likely to have problems than the shower or sink faucets... especially since it can be difficult to completely drain, blow out, or flush with antifreeze when winterizing.

Household plumbing normally does have shutoff valves for every sink supply line but RVs typically don't, perhaps because draining down the much larger house system is more of a problem, or because it is more useful to keep the rest of the house functional while a single fixture is being repaired.
