Doug & Eileens new set up...

Well it finally happened, we picked up our new 19' Escape.
It has the high lift axle, which was definitely need to hook up
level behind our Tacoma (Equalizer hitch was set as low as Reace could get it).

The two 6 volt batteries never dropped form their fully charged position on the monitor
even after 3 days of use with LED lights on all the time and the furnace running
most of the time (COLD at the lake!)

Just an awesome unit....

Very nice Doug, congrats to Eileen and you on getting it. Lots of fun times ahead.

I need to find some LED bulbs for the lights, but can't seem to locate them here in Calgary. Maybe at the RV dealerships, though they would likely be pricey. I might just order some online, though I won't have them for when we leave on our trip next Friday.

Doug,
FUN, FUN, FUN! Great feeling isn't it! Where did you get the LED's? The base on the inside Escape lights is different than the Casita, so the couple I had here I used on the outside. Have an order number?
Great picture of your daughter in front of the camper, did you take one of the two of you too?

Re: Doug & Eileens new set up...

We got the LED lights from Reace and Tammy when we picked up the trailer.
Found the small ones not quite bright enough to read by, so we put a
36 LED above the sink and above one of the dinette seats, the rest
are the smaller ones they have... (this was done after taking some with us for
our first night and experimenting)
I'm sure Tammy will mail some out to you as they are quite small.

Hi Doug,

Edgar here, waiting patiently for one more month until we pick up our 19.

In your post you said "Equalizer hitch was set as low as Reace could get it." Would you tell me what that means? Does the high lift axel trailer line up with the height of the Tacoma TDR receiver? Does the equilizer hitch add the right tension to the Escape-Tacoma combination?

I just want to make sure the EH has value to the tow-trailer connection. How hard is it to hook the two together? (hokie-escape keeps boasting about the 5th wheel connection. ) Is it possible for one person to navigate the hook-up?

Cheers!
Edgar

Hi Edgar

Yes the high lift axle is a must for the Tacoma and 19' Escape.

The Equalizer has the ability to raise or lower the ball height
with the Tacoma you set the ball as low as it can go, this makes
the trailer and truck perfectly level (on a lower vehicle you could raise the ball up).

The Equalizer makes for much easier towing, when we picked up
our trailer Reace and I set the hitch up on the 2nd link in from the
end (no much tension on the arms) I drove it on the HWY and found
the back of the truck was bouncing up and down a bit, so I tightened the
chains up to the 3rd link and it smoothed right out.

Yes it is so easy to hook up, one person can do it no problem.

ps:- you will get better then 16 MPG (Canadian Gallon) with the truck and trailer.

LED light pictures

Picked these up when we got our trailer for Reace and Tammy
This is the small one, not quite enough light for reading with old eyes...
But a great light for the bathroom,r above the bed and we put one
over one side of the dinette.

LED Lights

These are the bright ones we got, we put one above the sink and
one on the other side of the dinette, and they work great.

Heh Edgar,
I wasn't boasting, only saying how much easier it is. Doug is right in that the EH is very easy to hook up by one person, and makes quite a difference usually. Once you've done it once, it just takes a couple of minutes. It's the lining up of a 2" cup, over a 2" ball while you are seated in your truck that's the problem solo. Camping World (I believe it's them) has little rods that attach to the two aformentioned parts to help guide you through the back window. Never used them, but they look like they'd help guide you pretty close.
Wow, you're gonna love the 19. Doug's looks awfully good doesn't it?

Re: Doug & Eileens new set up...

Thanks for the photos, Doug. Very nice!

I'm glad to see that the new air conditioner is indeed a compact, low profile unit, just as Tammy described it.
