Wow .... that is amazing !

Gorgeous wolf picture!

The closest I've gotten to a wolf photo is the eastern end of a west-bound coyote... And even that from quite a distance...

No, wait! I had forgotten about this guy. This was in Yellowstone a few years ago. An elk had been hit by a vehicle and killed during the night, and this guy was feeding on the carcass. By the time we saw him, the park rangers were taking away the elk carcass and this guy was distinctly unimpressed. He (she?) had moved off a good distance (this is a small center crop of a photo taken with a 300mm lens) but wasn't willing to leave the area.

Looks like an adventurous first trip for you with the new trailer! One of the charms of enjoying our trailers is encountering the wildlife. We recently camped near Port Renfrew to visit Botanical Beach, as we were leaving we met up with this guy. He seems to have adopted the town and wanders about quite freely, without anyone bothering him. Some of the townfolk call him Bullwinkle, but I call him "Big Eric", (from the Monarch of the Glen series).

Incredible pics - all of them!

The closest photo I have ever gotten of a griz is at Bow Lake - near Banff. He was about 500 yards away. I had a 500mm lens and still all I got was a pic of a brown bump.

That's a good one .... doesn't he just look completely comfortable ! Big Eric seems more appropriate , since Bullwinkle was/is a moose .

I grew up on Vancouver Island, but I've never seen an elk there. And it's been 20 years since I've been to Botanical Beach. Is it still a challenge to get to?

These pictures of mine have been from past years, with past trailers. We've only had the 19 out for one weekend so far, and the most we can claim to have seen were deer, loons and chipmunks.

Apparently Vancouver Island has the largest surviving population of Roosevelt Elk in BC; most occurring on the Northern part of the Island. This was a rare sighting for us!

20 years ago it was indeed a trek out to the Beach and what a magical place it was! Last time I saw it was about 30 years ago when one had to drive for hours over a dirt road and then hike for ? hrs on a questionable "path" through brush and mud - not for the faint of heart. Now the road past Port Renfrew is completely paved - only about a 7 minute drive. The parking lot has two paths - one directly to Botanical Beach, a grand 1 km distance, and the path to Botany Bay, a staggering .75 km. If you want a really good trek there is a trail that loops, total 2.5 km around. Although I wouldn't describe it as entirely wheelchair accessible, it is a well groomed, fairly easy trail. So much has changed - tidal pools are still awesome, but not quite the vivid colours or variety of sea life that I remember. There was something about the half day trek in that used to make it truly out of this world <3

Thanks for reviving that memory, Glennrose. It was a special day.
