Jim are you posing this question to me? I can't think of simpler way of attaching the back splash to the counter top in this situation other than using an adhesive. I suppose that you could remove the counter top, flip it upside down, clamp the back splash in place, drill pilot holes and counter sink them, then fasten by screws... Lots of work and room for error.

I don't know what structural elements lie behind the wall of the trailer behind the sink. If there are structural members that are robust enough I suppose you could attach to them...

Last year, I built a lavatory sink/base cabinet combo. I still haven't attached a back splash. In this situation I'll use a stud finder, drill pilot holes, then cap the holes with some decorative wood. Maybe some ebony or bloodwood that I have stashed away. From the outset I could have done what I suggested earlier - flipped the top over and attach a back splash before mounting the sink, etc. But then we live in an old house and the walls are not straight. So there would be problems when it came to the final installation.

Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree because I don't have a good knowledge base with respect to how these trailers are constructed. Or there might be some other more feasible way of adding a back splash that someone has in mind.

This is just a guess but it's possible this is a technical issue Escape is trying to work out. Maybe they are thinking about shifting to Box Store type counter tops where the Formica is wrapped around the splash board and it all becomes one integral thing. That would be a practical solution. But those counter tops are so ugly...

Actually I was posing this to Escape, I can not understand why the backsplash is gone with the maple interior? I'm not concerned, but it appears the maple owners do not understand, perhaps someone can explain?

How is the back splash attached in the trailers that have oak interiors?

There are maybe a dozen screws along the back attaching it to the wall. I'm not sure if the new walls in the maple are the same, until I see one in person at Chilliwack.

There is a thin piece of plywood epoxied to the shell that holds the screws.

So the screws are the clamps until the epoxy sets. But what are they screwing into is the question.

Perhaps the new white material installed with the maple goes around the kitchen counter and has no way of attaching to it? Not sure until it is seen.

Here are a few screen shots from the Escape video they have posted on their web page. The video may have been done before the removal of the back splash as the weather looks warm. Since there is already a side wall support for the cabinet below they might have done away with the support I have indicated that they screwed the back slash to. If it is still there which I doubt, it is not all that big.
Many people like Rubicon just use a product that has an adhesive attached to the back of it. If he does not post his link, I will try to dig it up.

Nope. When I was in Chilliwack at the end of Jan., the demo unit only had the normal vinyl covering the wall and there was a bead of caulk along the countertop sealing it to the vinyl. I asked about it and was told that is how the maple interiors were going to be made. I asked about a backsplash as a customized option and they said not available. The sales person could not answer the reason for the change.

I still chose the maple interior because I really like the rest of it and it goes really well with our formica and upholstery colors. I plan to use the stickup tiles from home depot anyway as I don't really care for the look of white waterproof wall next to the stove either. This way I will have a unified look all around.

Maybe I’m dreaming, but in another thread, I’m pretty sure that the owner removed the back splash screws. Evidently, they trusted the adhesive to keep it in place. They’d also done a lot of other mods. A lot. As much as “Eggscape.” If I’m remembering correctly.

We closed on the 13th of December, and chose the maple interior. I’m more than ok without the back-splash panel. There are pictures online of residential kitchen counters without one. This one is from HD.

Here is a picture I received from ETI today of the paneling beside the stove in a Maple interior trailer. It looks like a beige color. I'm crossing my fingers that it goes with my custom countertop (not the one in the pic). I was expecting the paneling to be lighter.

I think it is a bit lighter. Photos can often distort whites and similar light colors. I saw that same trailer when I was in Chilliwack end of Jan. My memory is that it is not so beige. (But then again, poor memory distorts colors too!!)

There are two issues here so I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. 1. Escape must be using a cell phone to take these images. They are not all that great. The color balance is probably way off 2. All monitors unless they are color balanced won't get an accurate rendering of the 'real thing' either. I do a lot of photography and use Adobe Lightroom to develop my images. I didn't realize how 'off' my monitor was until I calibrated my monitor with Spyder pro. I'm not suggesting that you go crazy and do that unless you are really into photography. It will all end up good in when you see the trailer up close and personal.
