I'm not sure that would change. The moulded fiberglass inner door frame is there for reinforcement of the opening, not to accommodate a curved door design. With the vertical wall and flat door the opening will still need to be reinforced. Jim, are you saying that the aluminum door frame (from the door supplier, Lippert) will be the only reinforcement?

We need build-in-progress photos from the first 2017-spec unit destined for a customer.

The upper cabinets are where we keep light-weight stuff, like clothing, towels, etc.
It doesn't really matter what the shape of the cavity because we're not trying to pack hard sided or heavy stuff in those cabinets.

The effect of the moulded relief for the awning will have no bearing on storage being up so high in the upper cabinets, and will be more than offset by the effectiveness and look of the new awning setup.

The space gained at the lower corners will be the real benefit.

It is too bad that this relief won't work on the 5.0.

The main reason I see for the side gables on the door were to accommodate a flat screen. In my 2009 they were built out of a white melamine particle board. The new door frame should stop any flex I would think, though not certain what the finished product will be like, but certainly will know in short order.

Ah, that makes sense now: Jim, you're talking about cabinetry around the door to accommodate the screen, not the structural moulded fiberglass component which is bonded to the shell. Earlier Escapes didn't have those gables at all, since they didn't have a screen. The switches have moved around over the years, and I agree that they're likely to continue to move as appropriate to the interior design.

I believe on my trailer, the moulded fibreglass pieces that attached to the shell were a lot smaller than newer models. The while particle board gables were not a part of the cabinetry at all.

This is about the best photo I have from when I set up to do my cork flooring. You can see the gable in question is about an inch away from the cabinetry. It was the same on the other side.

Perhaps I should have described the "gables" as "millwork" or something, rather than "cabinetry". Whatever the correct term - certainly not "woodwork" - they're interior finishing bits rather than part of the shell.

Jim, your fiberglass door frame is probably about the same as in the first Escape I saw, a 17' (the only model back then) in 2006 - I don't recall where the switches were:

We did not have switches even on our 2011. Was glad to get them in 2015. Now those are changed due to the new design apparently. Glad we have ours. They are nice switches, too.

I am lucky--we have a switch for the outdoor light behind our folding screen door on the wall by our fridge..We have a 2008

Must have been something the previous owners asked for--wish they would have gotten the tinted windows!!!

The first Escape that I saw was a 17B with a switch for the porch light on the fridge cabinet...so I just assumed that they came that way. So when I ordered mine, and added 3 more exterior lights (front , back, drivers side), I asked that one switch control the porch and a second adjacent switch to control the rest. I have since exchanged the driver's side light to one with a switch, so it can remain off if need be.

Long awaited Escape 19 started production this last week. We have a June 29 due date and are scheduled to pick up on July 15th. Only problem is our truck engine started to make a noise. Hopefully we can get it taken care of before then.
