Aha! I see a mirror. How did you fasten it?

Wow Ronald, there is no way that is a lived in look, it is way too tidy. We find the wide table and benches makes for a great holding place for our loose 'stuff'. "

If you look at the bottom of the mirror you will see a piece of oak molding that is used to finish the edge of molding.I cut a piece for the top and the bottom so that the mirror sits in the L channel.I then screwed and glued it to the paneling of the trailer. It supports the mirror top and bottom.I than added a couple of edge screws to keep the mirror from shifting sideways.I should also add that I mounted the mirror as far to the right as possible. This allowed me to hit the corner stud with the screws on the right side of the mirror for a little bit more lateral ridgity.

Re: Ron&Jeans 19 ft Escape "Leap of Faith"

Great idea! How long are the screws? I would be concerned that they would pierce the shell of the shower compartment. I think that idea will help with the weight distribution and put less weight on the screws. Plus, if it were to break, it wou,dn't be hard to replace with a new one.

Re: Ron&Jeans 19 ft Escape "Leap of Faith"

The paneling is thin so I believe I only let the screws protrude about 3/8 of an inch past the thickness of mirror and molding.

Re: Ron&Jeans 19 ft Escape "Leap of Faith"

Thank you again for the information. I purchased a very lightweight and inexpensive mirror , but have hesitated to install it on a permanent basis. Rease is not a big fan of hanging mirrors because of the breakage factor.

The mirror I purchased from Home Depot was only about 7 bucks. It is lightweight and mounted very securely. If it should break I will buy another.I have over 2000 miles on the mirror and all is well.

Re: Ron&Jeans 19 ft Escape "Leap of Faith"

on the previous page, the photo of your escape just a shell, in the photo above the side window looks like two black screws or rivets poking out of the shell. Do you know what those are? Maybe just simple black marks? If they are rivets, I thought that would be interesting since I assumed none were used poking through the exterior shell.

You would be looking at the bolts that hold the awning on.

I got a plexi mirror from the local glass shop cut to order. No breakage, it's light and you can drill holes in it to mount it.

Thanks Glenn,
I called TAP plastics and theirs are pretty pricey. I'll try a glass shop.

I think I paid $12.50 a square foot.

fyi... The new 19's come with a type of mirror built into the wardrobe door - it essentially is the size of the whole door minus the border/trim. I'm not sure if they are doing the same thing for the new 17, 15 or 13's. I'll post a pic of what it looks like in Grasshopper under a separate "mirror" thread. For those with earlier model Escapes, I wonder if it might be something that could be retrofitted to your rig if you like it - or at least give additional ideas for you. Maybe Reace could chime in on this?
