The Lark

I am way late in posting these, but the gud wyfe Lindy says she wants them put where others can see them.

We picked up The Lark on June 21 (Mid-Summer's Day). In this case, "Lark" means "A carefree or spirited adventure," and we will go on many larks meaning "To engage in spirited fun or merry pranks." After we picked The Lark up, we spent two and half weeks meandering back to St. Paul, and had the time of our lives. If we had known how much fun we would have, we would have done bought one years ago. On the other hand, it is a lot easier to enjoy camping when retired! One Spanish word for "retirement" is "jubilación" which is like "jubilation", and it is certainly appropriate for us.

Options were pretty standard -- lots of Umbra hooks (Thanks to Medora for that suggestion), a Jensen LED TV and a AWM975 DVD player which Escape installed. We didn't like the plastic handles on the standard chrome faucet so we asked Reace to substitute a different faucet. Lindy picked out the material (a chenille upholstery fabric, and the formica.

Thanks to Eric and Mary for letting us look at Blue, which convinced us that an Escape was the right egg for us.

Beautiful...thanks for sharing the pics! I didn't see where the LED TV was mounted?

The TV is on the passenger side in the rear. We used the standard Escape Mount, and had Reace run an HDMI cable from the AM/FM/WXB/CD/DVD which is above the sink. We usually watch the TV from bed, but have been known to extend the mount so that we can watch from the front dinette.

On my 17B, that is a 12V DC outlet.

Thank you very much. Those of you who post pictures probably don't realize that some of us still in the planning stage pour over these pics with a fine-tooth comb. Much appreciated!

Look over your build list and the options. You have these placed where you expect to use them. I have another next to the AC on the wardrobe cupboard at the front.

Extra outlets (other than the one standard AC that comes with the Escape) have me in a quandary. I have been camping in my pop-up for eight years and although mostly off-grid, I have never plugged anything into anything. If your stereo/DVD/CD is hard-wired, what's to plug in? What doodads am I missing out on? Also, with the smaller 15 I'm not sure one would need more than one of each. Thoughts welcome here.

12 volt outlets are similar to cigarette lighters in a car. Seems now they do not contain cigarette lighters but are labelled "Accessory". Here is where you could plug in an iPhone, iPad, Droid, tablet, Nook, portable television or DVD player, and a myriad of other electronic toys.

Sometimes there are more practical things that can be used when off the grid such as cpap machines and other medical devices. Maybe other users can chime in what they use 12 volt outlets for.

That said you should have at least two, even in a 15. Be sure they are accessable. One of ours is really hard to reach when the front bed is made up, the location in the photo above is a better option.

We got the high lift axle and 15" tires. I thought about it and decided that there are a few places where I would like to go that might require a high lift axle. Of course, we can't go there with the Sienna, but we hope to have the trailer longer than we have the Sienna. And I didn't think I would

Karen, the silver thing you see is a 12volt outlet, which is above a 120 volt outlet. We mostly use it to charge the iPad & iPhone. Both of those use a 12 volt plug that has a USB port on it. I can use the USB port to recharge "AA" batteries, and a headlamp that has a rechargeable battery.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Leon

Leon, the little one is comfortable. That's what counts!

Karen, as Paul says, two 12V outlets are good to have. We have a battery checker that uses 12V. We can plug the cell phones into them. We usually use 110s for our phones and always for our IPads (others use the 12Vs) but there is no end to possible uses for the 12Vs. Quite a few people seem to have machines that need them. You are bound to use them at some time. Gives you more options as to where you are placing things to get them out of the way.

Karen the Luddite here...I have no cell phone, tablet, Nook, laptop or even a microwave but will heed all your comments!

Back to the original thread, the exterior pic of the Lark confirms my decision to get the aluminum rims. They look great!
