Re: Escape Training/Orientation Video

Well made video.
Much better then reading the dry print material.
Something similar would be a good marketing tool too, as it shows much more then what photos do.

I got a good chuckle outta Tammy's measure of 'a small glug' of black tank chemical.

Re: Escape Training/Orientation Video

Hi all,
I am hoping that Reace will make a video of putting on and hooking up the equalizer hitch as well as un-hooking it and perhaps info on the initial setting up as well. He taught me the "drag and tilt" method of getting it to and putting it in the receiver. That should save a lot of wear and tear on my "not as good as it used to be" back.

Re: Escape Training/Orientation Video

Reace installed the equalizer hitch on the trailer frame and adjusted it, and then showed me how to connect to the vehicle. It's pretty simple really. You just drop the hitch on the ball and crank it up until you lift the rear suspension enough to make installing the bars easy. Then you crank it back down. You do the same thing to remove the equalizer bars and unhook. We should have shot that part for the video, but if you pay attention while he shows you, you'll not forget how.

This is the How To video starring Tammy. It explains a lot of what you need to know about your Escape trailer. It is about 18 mos. old so some things may have changed.

It is very helpful! I ran the awning section at least a dozen times!

setup/take down checklist?

Does anyone use a checklist for setup and take down procedures on their Escape 5.0?

We used to but don't anymore....perhaps we should.... We do have the checklist with us along with all the manuals for reference.

gbaglo posted a checklist in one of the posts. (http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f7...in-3491-2.html) that we use.

Is there some way the checklists and the link to the training video (which is great!) can be posted in the files section? That way they'd just be there and we all wouldn't be stumbling on them in the forums.

Wanna bet? I think I need a little cheat sheet. But one thing I found helpful after a frustrating attempt, is that my son told me to do everything in reverse and unhook the ball last when un-hitching.

Actually, I wouldn't do that.
I would make unhooking the safety chains my last step, after chocking the wheels and releasing the ball.

That's a good idea. I always have the chocks in place when hitching and un-hitching. But I will now change that part of the procedure. I just have to remember to be sure they are no longer attached before driving off. (In the un-hitching part.)

I think the most important thing about hitching and unhitching is to do it all yourself, to do it the same way and always complete the procedure before stopping to take a pee.

I agree I only have had an issue with my horse trailer When I was interrupted and then forgot to go back and complete the job drove off without the chains being hooked up and the ball locked in It suddenly hit me that I needed to check it out. Must have been in the back of my mind.

My buddy assigned his wife to lower the hitch onto the ball. I happened to wander over and saw that the hitch was actually sitting on top of the ball. It appeared to be locked down, but it wasn't. He would have only gone about a foot before discovering he wasn't hitched.
Do it yourself.
Just in case you think I'm picking on women, I watched a couple of guys launching a boat. As the driver backed down the ramp, he tapped the brake and the boat slid off the trailer and landed on the twin inboard/outboards.
His buddy had helpfully unhooked the bow of the boat from the trailer. I'm guessing about $6,000 damage.
