The
Vehicle Identification Number (which ironically is a string of letters and digits, not actually a number) follows an internationally agreed format.
For high-volume manufacturers, the last six digits are the only part which is actually a "serial" number to distinguish yours from the identical ones built before and after it. For low-volume manufacturers (under 500 units per year, so presumably including Escape Trailer Industries), the 12th through 14th characters identify the manufacturer (so all Escapes would have the same digits there), and only the last three are the serial number.
The serial number part (last three digits) can reset every year, or could just keep counting up for that model, or could count up for all models. From previous discussion (
Are Escapes numbered?) that would presumably be the Escape "production number": all Escapes (of all models) are one sequence which is now over 500.
I don't know what Reace plans for when the Escape count reaches 999 and can't go higher - only a couple years away at the current production rate. Start again from one?
