2015 Escape 19, BC, Canada, $30,000 Can (approx $24,000 US)

This is our dream trailer that we purchased earlier this year. Unfortunately life changes are causing us to sell. We will most likely down size to a smaller Escape in the future due to storage considerations.
It is in excellent condition with the following options -
Air conditioner
Extra insulation and thermal windows
Underneath spray foam
Removable power cord
Storage box
Extra exterior light
Extra rear exterior Upper led lights provide great visibility when braking etc.
Rear hitch
New battery
Larger fridge
Kitchen window
Bath window
2 12 volt outlets(1 has 2 usb ports)
Surge protector
Led reading lights (2)
Stainless sink and tap
3 burner Stainless stove and range hood
Led interior lights
Custom fabric
Mattress is Ikea Morgedal

We are located in Creston, BC which is close to the top of Idaho, north east Washington and north west Montana. If you are in the States it is a simple process to purchase.
The price is firm at $30,000 Can, approx $24000 US (depending on exchange rate)

Hi
We just sent you an email saying we are very interested in your Escape 19. We live in Vancouver and would like to come and look at it.
What is the weight of your trailer with all the extras?

Thanks
Marg & Tony

I sent you a PM but for other’s who are interested - weighed it once while empty and still hooked to our tow vehicle and it showed approx 2200lbs then you would add the tongue weight (it was too busy to unhitch) That was at one of the commercial truck scales so I think their accuracy lessens at the smaller weights but it gives a rough idea. I know the ‘classic’ trailers weigh quite a bit less than the second generation ones. We tow with a Honda Ridgeline (5000lbs tow capacity) and are very happy with how it tows.

For our US friends currently the Canadian exchange is dropping compared to US so for example today you could buy our trailer for around $23000. We also have a bank account in the States as we live so close to the border) so you can pay in US dollars to make the transaction even smoother

Import fees

I would like to know how much the import fees are on a privately owned Canadian trailer, sold to an American buyer. Is it a percentage, a sliding scale with different levels or just how it is calculated. How big of a hassle is it to do this? If you have experience, I’d like to hear about it.

Iowa Dave, we have sold two smaller fiberglass trailers to folks in the States (Scamp and Casita) and both transactions went very smoothly and there were no fees at the border.
My understanding is that there are no import fees as long as you are present and bring the trailer over yourself and it has the required DOT sticker stating it meets all US standards. Obviously each state has their own tax etc requirements when you register it as you would with any other travel trailer.
When I have checked with our local US border crossing they stated the same that you can import any newer trailer as long as it has the DOT sticker.(The vintage ones over 25 years don’t need the sticker even) You need a bill of sale and registration (our equivalent of the title) You show that at the border, they check the trailer VIN then they give you the required paper and you take everything to your DMV to get the title.
On the Canadian side if you are carrying more than $10,000 equivalent to canadian dollars when you cross you have to declare it and fill out a form but there is no problem with bringing it over. I think they just want to make sure people aren’t doing drug deals or other illegal activities.

I always give people the # of our border crossing so they can confirm it themselves and suggest they check with their DMV to confirm what they will need and make a note of who they talk to.

Response

Thanks for your response. I think there is some confusion on this issue at times and you explanation and previous transactions certainly clarify this procedure. I have a friend looking at trailers and while he may not be willing to go to Canada to get one his wife might. And then I won’t have a friend anymore. Thanks again
