Yeah, me too. I'd compare the layout of the 5.0 to the 21' and the 19' to the 17', but never the 5.0 to the 19...

Comparing the 19 to the 5.0 is quite valid, and was one I had to make to some degree. If the 21 is not a contender due to bed size or location, and the 17 just too small, those are the two options to consider. If course from there, there is another bunch of considerations, like you're vehicle, size considerations both ways, etc.

Welcome Barbara,
Way up north there, now. You may be the first Escape oner there. As can be seen, not sure of your response, I assume you mean open or closing windows in the bed area?

Exactly - the 17 is too small and I don't like the bed's position in the 21. The 19 is a good size, and I like having windows in the front, just like my old Boler. The 5.0 doesn't have front windows so that became a determining factor.

Donna I think there are alot of similarities between the 19 and the 5er. If (and it's a big if) I ever was to "upsize" from the 19, it'd be the 5.0TA.

We have the 19. We like it very much and have not considered up sizing to a 21 or 5.0 TA as we like the Highlander as our daily driver. Both larger trailers are nice but honestly as long as it's just the two of us, we might very well stay with a 19 even if we were getting a new one. It just works for us. And as many have said, look them all over, consider your style of camping and make your own decision based on that. We usually camp locally from 3 to 4 days during the week and also attend some rallies where we have been out for as long as three weeks. That's our style and the 19 works for us. The camping creature comforts like dual 6 v batteries, solar, air, furnace, awning, hot water, aboard shower continue to make camping so easy compared to the old tent days.

The bed and dinette were reversed in the 21' from the 19' and I did not like that idea. But now that we have switched, people were right about the view usually being in back, and the bed location is fine because there is a curtain over the door to use. No climb-over is a factor also. The extra space in a 21' is good if spending a great deal of time using the trailer --- more space for storage and counter and bathroom and aisle. There is a definite difference. If someone is not out that much, then it probably would not matter.

I'm still trying to figure out the 'no crawl-over' claim by 21' owners. How do you get out from the side of the bed against the wall? Do you crawl the length of the bed? Doesn't that irritate the other person?

You just scoot down. There is floor at the foot of the bed. No climbing over. A definite difference. No bothering the other person other than the noise you might make in any case being up. You are getting out at the other end from their head.

I agree with Cathy,
Dave has the side by the wall (outside) and does not disturb me at all when he gets out. He just scoots down - there is plenty of room at the foot of the bed for him to stand up and walk around the end of the bed..

Maybe we're different but we've always thought the best part of the night was the crawl-over....

The crawl over was never a big deal for us either. We often both did or mid night trip at the same time.

Crawlin over
I am with you on the crawlin over. I'm old but I am not dead. We're doing a little practice dancing tonight in the great room, in anticipation of the wedding on Saturday. Jake looks a little confused.

Sometimes the crawl over gets old -- at the beginning of our past trip I had bursitis on my knee and that made it a challenge -- but by the end of the summer it was no longer an issue -- What I like in our 19 is waking up and being surrounded by morning light and whatever view is all around us. I know that's not for everyone -- we've had guests in our house who have told me the window shades are not dark enough to keep out the morning sun, but for me that's a plus. I also like that since the bed is in the rear of the trailer we often don't have to pull all the shades for privacy because there are just trees out there, so we wake up to the view.

That is one thing I loved about the 19, and have reservations about with the 5.0. I too loved being able to wake up and look out and about, on days it was not dark when I got up that is. Light does not bother me at all for sleeping.

When I built my cabin , I put a 29" X 48" skylight in all 3 bedrooms. I like the morning sun but my wife and kids are not so enamored with the sun in the early morning. The bed in our Casita is surrounded by windows so the Escape 21 would take some getting used to .

Agree there's plenty of room at the foot end on the 21 to stand up, then walk over to the bath. Even simpler on the bath side with the cut corner!

Hi: Jim Bennett... Unless you cover the "Exit" hatch over the bed you won't have to be concerned about light in the morning. We found sunup to be too early in BC. for our taste!!! Alf
