Market Place posting suggestions

These guidelines are posted in FGRV and may be followed here:
Classifieds Posting Rules

Our classifieds section is offered as a benefit of membership. We expect ads placed to be related to the topic of this forum. Place only one ad per item - do not post or re-post an ad in more than one section of the classifieds. Reply to ads if you are interested in actually purchasing the item. It is up to each party to verify the authenticity of the other. Ads may be removed by our staff at any time for any reason.

Posting a "For Sale" ad for Your Trailer
Post the make, model, year, & asking price. The title is a good place to put this information.
Describe the trailer, listing trailer features including factory options, and modifications.
Describe the condition of trailer and components. Is it new? Has it been restored? Is it a project looking for restoration?
Include photos of your trailer’s interior, exterior, and special features. If you don't, interested buyers will ask for them.
DO NOT include your contact information in the thread (such as phone number, email, exact location). You can include a nearby city to give people an idea of your general area in the state or province. PLEASE use forum Personal Messaging (PM) or forum email to exchange personal information.
If you wish to edit the content of your listing, contact a moderator to either set the post to allow editing, or assist you with doing so.
Let the moderating staff know when the item is sold, or is no longer for sale, so the thread can be archived.
Posting a reply to a "For Sale" ad
Limit your responses to requests for clarification of details pertaining only to the item the seller is listing.
Be genuinely interested in purchasing the item. If you are not interested in purchasing, don’t post. Off topic posts will be removed
There are to be NO price negotiations, or discussing of cost or payment in the public thread. Please use PM (Private Messaging) or email for this.
Again, DO NOT include contact information in the thread, neither phone number

There is a work around, if you wish to post your email address in your ad. My IT son-in-law has several email addresses. If he needs one to post on a site, but wants to avoid spam, he just uses one of his alternate addresses. He can then check it if he cares about responses, or ignore it.

How is this any different from what's already going on with the listings here? Other than notifying a moderator to change it to sold?

Granted, I've not read the rules for listings since I don't currently have anything for sale.

These are reasonable guidelines but maybe some folks need a gentle reminder on how to use the forum ad opportunity. Makes it easier for all.

It is a real bonus to membership to have this free feature and many folks have saved themselves bucks and effort by one simple post on the forum.

Hopefully some will take note of the guidelines and make it easier for all concerned.

It is telling people to use private messages when half of the people or more who get on the sales section are new members who cannot use pms yet. No note on that.

I would rather the seller posts in the thread the trailer is sold rather than sending me a PM. That way Jim can take care of it if he sees it before I do.

Sellers and buyers are being instructed to talk to each other by private message when many of them cannot do that.

I don't think posting your email address is any big deal any more. I've had my email address in my profile here for eight years without an issue. Spammers have so many other ways of collecting addresses, with much less effort.

How many posts are required before the private messaging is available?

Not sure what is accomplished. One Saturday years ago we had a spam blitz and the guy was posting faster than I could delete his posts. He had no problem posting ten times.

Take this up with Social Knowledge. As you know they make the software rules. I answered the question about the number of posts to be able to send PM.

Hi: gbaglo... I don't know why the word spam has taken on such a lowly meaning. I quite enjoy it... specially Jalapeno flavour... off the grille. SPAM® Brand | Versatile Canned Meat Products & Recipes Alf

Oh man, trust Alf to take it off topic. Next thing you know someone will be bringing up poutine.

Quite surprising, but I was at a restaurant in Durant OK last week that had Poutine on the menu. I wasn't expecting that, but especially in OK.

From what I've read, here and elsewhere, you can call any bad idea 'poutine'.
