[QUOTE=Jim Bennett;89402

The last few people that made it through the lineup did not have much for main courses to choose from.

Being unlucky enough to be at the last table called I can second that

IMHO it's way too large a group to call up one table at a time. Some of the first called were going back for seconds before we even got called.

It would be nice if one of you with some influence with ETI could suggest that the food be placed in two separate areas and two tables at a time were called up.

Good idea Ron and since it is our rally, no reason not to do that. With over a hundred units it seem logical to have 2 lines.

hmmm ....I wonder about the size of that space for two different table set ups ( if I am understanding that correctly) , also dividing up the entrees and side dishes if the tables are in separate locations might take a lot more time - something one person considers an entree may be a side dish for another ....... could it not be organized to have one line up on either side of the same set-ups and possibly announce " please wait till all tables have been called before going for seconds ? maybe odd number one side even the other .....

Good suggestion but there is enough room for a second table. Also, both sides of the table were used but for that many people the wait was very long. The first up were finished for quite a while before the last table got up. A table loaded with all sorts of yummies presents an agonizing choice of decisions for some folks and some linger painfully deciding if they should take one or two of this or that. Two tables would allow for 4 lines and much less wait.

There were discussions already, after the meal last year. We have ideas, but are quite limited as far as layout goes, given the amount of folks that are there, and the size of the area provided. As it was, we were told we couldn't move the pool tables used for serving as they were placed against the walls, but we did anyway, or it would have been even worse. We did protect them before using them to served.

People do linger too slowly, that's for sure. I think we should provide Ron and Jim with cattle prods to keep the crowd moving. Kidding aside, we will be encouraging folks to move along.

I do agree with Gabi, that it would be unfair to split the food into two separate tables, people would just be wanting to browse both. Also, last year I was purposely watching to ensure folks did not go back for seconds until everyone got through, and if one or two slipped through, that would be it. Yes, some of the first through finished before the last folks got through, but I have seen this in lots of big gatherings like this.

Pretty sure though, if anyone wants to help set up this year, you won't be turned away.

Bottom line, it will be lots of fun regardless of how it goes down.

I just wait until everybody has sat down and then I get a bun.
Had my fill of pot lucks as a preacher's kid. Green jello with shredded carrot.
