We have a Wednesday pick up scheduled but according to the pictures received yesterday it may be ready a day or two earlier.
We then plan on hot tailing it back to make the rally either late Friday or Saturday with Prairie Schooner, the 2016 2nd Gen Escape 19. Hoping we do not repeat the experience someone else mentioned over on FGRV about the park ranger's customer service, as we maybe arriving after hours.
Will update once we start our trek.
Jim, we arrived early at Thomson Causeway. I just checked the booth hours and on Fri-Sat, they are open 9am-11am and then 5pm-8pm. The camp host just told me they do not lock the gate, so you can come in to your site. If you need me to check something for you, just let me know. 972-965-1629.

Extended stay

Hi Reddog
Wow, you have a lot of time for exploring. If you go north of Thompson about 8 miles you'll be in Savanna, lots of bars, a couple wildlife areas, a good grocery store. Across the river is Sabula Iowa. There isn't much of a town but the causeways and backwaters hold a lot of herons, egrets, Eagles, and some white Pelicans this time of year. To the south of Thompson is Fulton and Clinton on the Iowa side, there's a casino on the west side of Clinton. Buffet was not great but not bad either, last time I was there. It's a little ways south to Rock island Illinois, but there is a good arsenal there if that interests you. A good grocery store in Clinton too, It's the HyVee.

Hi Dave!

Thanks for the tips. We will probably just spend most of the time prior to the rally just relaxing and prepping our Casita so it can be put on the market after the rally in the outer banks.

Wow! By shear coincidence, I checked Recreation.gov and found site #103 available, so we moved from #99 to #103.

Now, site #99 is open...

Ah! musical sites. Site 103 sounds great. I believe Site 105 is going to be used by CPAHarley, am I correct Jim?

I had a chance to correspond with the residents of site 107, this is a shared site with 105. They are I believe Aussie, always hard to tell in an email. I think they are friends of Iowa Dave and that is why they are at the rally. At any rate they have a behemoth fifth wheel, one of those ones with three axles. The missus has taken her heritage and expressed it with the raising of Australian Kelpies. At last count they were travelling with 11 of those cuties. I say at last count because two of the bitches were due any day. Kelpies are know for large litters. So by the time of the rally you could be next to 41 Kelpies. Wonders never cease.

These guys are trained hearders. I hope no one is planning on bringing any sheep to the rally. I guess they also work reindeer, goats and cattle. Probably safe on the reindeer.

Walks to the bathroom after dark could be interesting.

I'm bringing a greyhound I got as a rescue. I'm gonna cover him with sheep wool
and run him through the campsite and lay down four miles of trailing scent all the way to the nearby federal penitentiary . When they get back they'll sleep for the whole weekend, no problem. If that don't work, I'll use a surf rod to cast a steak across the river. Them little dogs will be in Davenport before they know it with that current in the big river. No worries
Dave

Well, I guess a change of plans for the Australian Kelpies. Apparently there is a problem with deer at the federal correctional center just north of Thomson. There is the need for the herders to round up some deer that have broken into the facility. Sadly, they will have to be based out of the prison while they do their work.

I was so looking forward to seeing them work. So who knows what lucky soul ends up on site 107?

Hi: fudge_brownie... It could end up being very deer breaking into a Correctional Institute!!! Especially when most want to break out.
Have a great time at the rally. Alf

And here I was looking forward to a pack of Australian Kelpies herding Iowa Dave around the campground when they smelled all that sheep wool all over him.

Because of family commitments we will not be able to make the rally. We were hoping to see some Escapes first hand to get an idea of what model we hope to get in the future. Looks to be a great time of the year to meet up and maybe see everyone at another time and place.

You'll still be able to see all the models -you'll just have to travel our beautiful state a bit and visit them!

reddog,

Please inform on the bugs at Thomson. I'm thinking of bringing a screen tent, but if bugs aren't much of an issue I won't. What's been your experience so far?

By the way.....I have a red dog....big red dog...golden retriever, but more mahogany colored.

Let's try this
Hey Red Dog, you got your ears on? over,
What's the Bug situation in the campground?
We're trying to decide whether we need the screen rooms at the campground or not.
Your input, if accurate will be rewarded.
Two Red Dogs in one camp, imagine that.

Bring screen tent. We are currently in site 100 and we have mosquitos, gnats, and flies with teeth. It may be better if you are located away from the green belt
