Cancelling A45

We are going to have to cancel our site (I know Donna, you weren't expecting us anyway ).

Arrival Date: Thu Oct 06 2016 - Departure Date: Mon Oct 10 2016
Check-in: 4:00 pm
State: Oregon
Site, Loop: A45, A
Campground: Nehalem Bay State Park, OR

If someone wants it, PM me and I can change the reservation to list you as the Primary Occupant (saves you $8 and keeps someone else from getting the site if I cancel it online).

SORRY EVERYONE FOR NOT GETTING BACK TO YOU. I've been out camping since Sept. 8

I understand some folks have cancelled and other have picked up the reservation. Good. It's too late now for me to deal with wait lists, etc.

SO, if you need to cancel, please post here on the forum that you're doing so. Hopefully someone wanting a site will be able to jump in and get it.

I'll be posting the schedule (such as it is) and other information no later than Wednesday evening. Stay tuned!

Any other PMs I'll answer as soon as I can, promise.

We're sorry to miss out. Darn clients are making me work too hard! However.... only 96 days 12 hours 56 minutes until semi-retirement. Then I can Just Say No to work.

Doug,
It sounds like you're retiring the same day I am. Congrats. (Even get to count the Xmas holiday as a "work" day).

I see where the forecast in Nehalem, OR, during the upcoming week is for something called ... 'rain'? We keep hearing about this phenomenon called 'rain' so it will be exciting to finally see it in person!

I'm leaving in a couple of hours and this will be my last post about the Fall NOG... see y'all at the beach!

Well, it is what it is and we do have the meeting hall for the Friday and Saturday night get togethers.

This forecast is from NOAA.com

We had to cancel our reservation today because of some family business we had to take care of. We hope to see some of you next year at Osoyoos. The spot we canceled several hours back was C06.

Any suggestions as to the best route to take from Eugene to Nehalem?

I would go I-5 to Portland, pick up 26 West to 101 South to Nehalem. Although it's 12 miles or so longer than taking 22W over the Coast Range, it's all freeway until 26W narrows down to 2 lanes for a few miles - over the Coast Range it's back to 4 lanes in the grades, with plenty of slow lanes marked for trucks.

I've tried both routes in the past, and live about 15 miles West of Portland.

There are other possibilities. It really depends on the amount of time you have and the type of driving you are looking for. This time of year, you could also go west from Eugene to Florence and then drive Hwy 101 north and see a lot of the Oregon coast without dealing with the heavy traffic found in the summer. You can drive north to Corvallis and then head over to the coast. Or take 26 to 6 and go west to Tillamook and then north on Hwy 101 to Manzanita and the Nehalem Bay State Park. I5 north to 26 and then south on 101 certainly offers the better freeway and double lane experience.

Thanks for the suggestions but we had to resort to using Google maps as we arrived yesterday. Maps sent us west on 22 to 101, then north to Garibaldi where, for whatever reason, had us turn right onto some tiny, windy road which finally met up with 53. We eventually found 101 again outside of Nehalem. Quite an interesting ride ....

That was the route my GPS took me yesterday. It was an interesting drive. I don't mind the windiness, but the surface of the highway was not all that great in places.
