I was very pleased with the Tundra/ 5.0 TA combo. We have the smaller 4.6 engine and it did a great job. The 6 speed auto seems to be the star of the show, finding and holding the right gear on the many ascent/ descents on highway 3 to Osoyoos and highway 90 through Idaho and Montana on the trip home. Towing mileage came in at ~ 13.0 mpg average, which was slightly better than I expected since the Tundra struggles to achieve 20 mpg solo.

We arrived safely, 6,910 miles later. My average mpg has increased to 16 for the entire trip, a much desired improvement over 13 mpg towing the 21 Escape. I think weight and aerodynamics have changed for the good.

I might have been the one with the fancy schmancy water pressure regulator . The supplied one broke and that was what I bought on the ole Amazon for a few bucks more than a simple one .
Also my first rally with my brand new trailer, nice to have met all of you that I did and look forward to meeting more of you all next year.

I have no phone reception where we are camping, let alone WiFi, though have taken and processed some photos. We just came into Nelson for a bit of shopping and lunch. Will have to wait until I am home next week to post.

If you think a Blackie or a Grizzly can' get into an Escape Ha ..Ha..
A bear can open a 45 gal drum if it has a mind to.
Try putting a p-b +j in a barrel . And watch the action.
@20 min. later he's looking for a glass of milk or a beer.

I find wind affects my MPG more than weight. Coming across North Dakota and eastern Montana a couple of years ago, bucking strong headwinds towing an Aliner, my milage dropped from 17 MPG to 11MPG. Same on my Osoyoos trip for the rally. Heading north up the Columbia river valley, there were strong winds out of the north. 13.3 MPG. Return trip hardly any wind to speak of. 16.4 MPG on the same leg. So I'm guessing the aerodynamics is the biggest factor between the 19' and 21'.
Or it could be the new awning. The old style with those arms sticking out surly create a bit of drag.

I agree that wind is a huge factor - far more than weight in our case. We've gotten as high as 20 mpg when we have a tailwind, and as low as 12 with a headwind. I don't think the awning arms really affect it to a noticeable degree, but of course I've no data to compare.
The lesser frontal area of the 19 vs the 21 is, in my opinion, the main reason for the mpg increase.

Back last night from the rally and beyond; fun times throughout our week. Loved the statue watching over the Nk' Mip campground from above (pic 1). We were stuck out in the 'north 40' with one 19 to our shore side (pic 2) - three more even further out. The 3rd pic shows JP's brand new 19 beside our aging 17 on the Balfour ferry Wednesday morning, after overnighting at Kokanee Creek Provincial - "etuna" there also.

I got over 20 this afternoon between Lethbridge and Medicine Hat AB, had a super tailwind, plus kept the speed between 94-100kph. Two more days and we are home after over a month away, the highlight of our trip, the rally of course

I just tried to post an account of my experience and it disappeared as I was trying to submit. Too tired to type it all up again. Any way I arrived on Friday afternoon. Was originally given site 160, which I couldn't fit into. Then they gave me 156. Same problem. I ended up in site 191, which wasn't ideal. All in all, I had an enjoyable experience even though I didn't participate in much of what was going on with the Rally. Photo is my first night in Lynden WA. May 25

We were in F4, across the road from the 19 in 159 (see pic 2 above), and casually watched your arrival adventure. The good news I suppose is that you ended up on a nice lakefront site; the bad news - like us you were isolated from the rally gang. There were 5 Escape trailers out in the 'north forty' - yours the furthest. No clue as to why...

We will be out a couple days yet and will have about 18 days in this journey and 5,000 miles or so. Camped in the black hills tonight. They have been working very hard here the last two years trying to keep up with the destruction of the mountain pine beetle. Doing a very good job with what I've seen. Camped at Pactola Reservoir. Nice enough. First place they've gouged me $2.00 for my dog. Ought to be charging them $5.00 to look at such a beautiful animal.
