Congratulations Dan, it was great to meet you and Martha this past weekend. Hopefully see you on the Mississippi next year with your new 21. Best of luck selling the Casita I am sure you'll have no problem doing that!

Dan, Good for you. We are in southern Illinois at Rend lake in a nice spot. It's eight o'clock in the evening and 80 degrees. Running the air and loving it.

Sounds like a slogan to put on your new Escape

The third Mississippi River Rendezvous is now history. It was blessed with warm sunny days and cool nights. Thomson Causeway, operated by the Corp of Engineers, gave us continuous views of the Big Muddy and an excellent facility to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow fiberglass enthusiasts.

The turnout seemed pretty similar to last year. I counted 35 groups attending, but some late day visitors on Saturday had my head spinning and I may have miscounted. As in the past, Escape made up the bulk of attendees but there were a good number of Scamps, as well as Casita, Hunter, and Boler.

There were several suggestions for some fine tuning of events and activities. Thank you for your ideas. If you have suggestions of your own, do not hesitate to contact me.

We are planning for next year, stay in touch as we work out the details.

Paul,
My public awaits your direction. I am inundated with private messages regarding dates and location for what is becoming a premier Midwestern event. There's so many rallies that I had to buy a sniping program to assure our site pick.

Well, there’s really not a bad site down at Thompson causeway unless you’re stuck in the penetentiary 4 miles north of the campground. The shower house was a “drive to” proposition for me anyway. It’s just that I’m so damn competitive I can’t help myself. At Land Between the Lakes we had a very nice site with a view of the lake, plenty big etc. I spent about 75% of my time at that rally at the party central site because the folks there were lots of fun to talk to. Rallies are good times, unless you get lost on the way back to the camper after a campfire. And if you haven’t had this happen, you are not having enough fun. When you take time to go to a rally whether it’s 100 miles or 2000 miles, you want to take your coat off and stay awhile. Life is too short, get out there. Got my Escape calendar today, the first one did not get here. Probably hijacked by a stick built owner with fiberglass envy. I’m marking it up. 10 cents a dance and my card’s filling up.

Dunno Eric, we may be making an unexpected trip out to Osoyoos and beyond again this year which may curtail our being able to attend the Miss. rally. We shall see

Probably go on Wed again. I’m not buying a fishing license this year. I’m going to spend the money instead at that fish dealer between the campground and Fulton. Even if fish is $15
a pound I’ll still be money ahead. Might stay Sunday too, we will see.

Hmmm, do I see a Dave's fish fry meet sometime in the future? I'm aware of Roy's fish fry over on FGRV.

I like to catch fish and I don’t mind cleaning fish but I am not much at frying fish. There are some small town restaurants in southern Iowa that have catfish on the menu. They are usually pretty good. I’d let someone else do the cookin and the cleanup. When those turkey fryers got popular about 15 years ago people would bring the fryer to a reunion or other celebration in the parks and rent a pavilion. They would fry a turkey, chicken or fish. Once it got dark , they would pour out the used oil on a small mulched tree rather than deal with it. Killed the tree deader than hell every time. Jeez I used to hate that. Strange form of vandalism.

Yes, I agree, I bought a fryer in the 80's and lived on 2 acres in Maryland so I had my own disposal. It did make quick work of most items, particularly turkey and was used more as a crab pot when oil got more expensive. It came up here in Pennsylvania when we moved and has not been used since.
