Rally magic

Participation makes rallies succeed. Wherher it’s as simple as a roadway gathering, a scheduled event or volunteers taking care of camp chores; setup and cleanup of a potluck, getting firewood, or encouraging all to participate . We have that in spades at the Mississippi and at most of the rallies we’ve been to. Exclusivity is not of any interest to me so I encourage any and all owners to feel welcome when a rally is announced. Of course if it is exclusive, I won’t be attending anyway. We have too much devisiveness in our world as it is. To paraphrase Bevis and Butthead “ Rally on dude”.

Hi: Iowa Dave... I couldn't get a word in edgeways. Your PM. box needs some weeding out. Looks like some attendees gotta grip on the wheel of fortune. Lots of new best friends there!!! LoL Alf

Thanks Paul for the organizing and thanks to your helpers especially Eric and Dave. Sorry Paul we didn't get to say goodbye as Sunday morning I suddenly looked over and you had departed. Again we were the only Canadians attending, come on people from MB and SK and NW ON, it's a great rally and not that far! Well there were some former Canadians now residents of FL there. It was great meeting Kevin and Cheryl and others newly attending as well as all our friends from previous rallies.

Yes the weather did put a bit of a damper on things, but even in the rain there were groups of people standing around the loop chatting or as the case Sunday night gathered around at Bill's campfire in the rain. Now we are enjoying (or not that much) low 90's temps and high humidity in GA.

See you all next year! I've marked my calendar to reserve the six months before.

So, what would those dates be, 9/27-9/29?

Yes Jim, although most people will likely be there the 26th or even earlier.

Ditto to all the compliments. Thanks to Paul and all those that helped make it a great rally, regardless of the weather. We had a great time.

It addition to the rally, there are some interesting sites in the area; the windmill in Fulton, lumber mansions in Clinton, and the lock and dam #13.

We toured the Curtis mansion in Clinton. He was a lumber baron and the house has some amazing woodwork. We also spent an afternoon fascinated by the workings of the lock and dam #13. A covey of 24 bass boats came through the lock and held up a coal barge going north. It was quite a process to see a tow of 15 barges come through.

Looks like a lot of fun that I hope to attend one day. Odd to read about cold and seeing everyone in coats and hats when in GA it hit 90 yesterday!!!!! I saw in this thread where someone that attended this rally is now in GA so he knows. LOL
I have a place at Lake Sinclair, going this weekend and plan to get in the water, I know my 7 year old grand son will join me. I've owned the place for 22 years and 100% sure never been in the water in October!!!!!!!!!!
I will be attending the Wild Frontier Rally in a couple of weeks so looking forward to that for sure.
Safe travels to all,

Steve

I had a great uncle who worked the locks on the Monongahela River in Brownsville,Pa, where my parents were from. Used to visit him on"the job" as a child.

Steve no doubt you'll be able to be in the water, with our current and forecast temperatures. Looks like it's going at least to 90 every day here (Fort Benning) until next Thursday. Our daughter said that October is very nice here, more like our summer up north but so far it's much hotter than we expected. Well it's better than 34 and wet snow/rain at home right now!

We should get a break next Saturday, going up to Blue Ridge and ride the train hopefully will see some fall colours.

Escape to Illinois

Kudos to Paul and Janet for initiating, organizing, managing, conducting and hosting this rally for the past 4 years. A very enjoyable experience, in a wonderful setting. Their efforts are appreciated.
And thanks to all who participated and brought wonderful food and drink to the potluck and happy hour. A shout out to Elaine for her pea soup....just the thing on a cool Fall night to warm the cockles of my heart.
I have been remiss in posting earlier........we stayed at Thomson until Wednesday, and with clean-up, un-packing, partial winterizing of the rig and the like....well.....having fun is a lot of work.

My mixologist concocted the Escape Industries KOOL AID, which I brought to the rally, hoping to share a snort with some other Casita comrades, maybe a Scamp scoundrel or a Bigfoot to boot. Alas, only one Scamper that I saw, so I had to share with the Escapers. Seems they'll try anything. This Escape KOOL AID concoction had a smooth, silky touch to the palate, a hint of maple overtones, a strong finish and an aroma reminiscent of my grandmothers coin purse. Na Zdrowie! Cheers!

He said the elixir should have an effect in minutes, or a few hours, maybe days, or even up to 90 days later. Check back next year to see if it has worked.

Besides the attractions already mentioned in this thread, we visited the Clinton arboretum, an award winning, delicious and stunning piece of parkland. I highly recommend it for a visit next year. They specialize in conifer (fir) trees and shrubs. Amazing variety of plants and scenery there. A gem.

Hope to see ya'll next year.

P.S. To Leon, who was fretting about Iowa Dave and Thoer: Your fears were unfounded. Both characters were stalwart gentleman, conducted a fair and square torque-your-lugnuts competition and did not draw the sheriff to the park.
