Just to elaborate a bit. There is one private campground in Big Bend NP that is still open, run by Forever Resorts. Here are some details:

25-site concession-operated RV park (full hook-ups—water, electrical, and 3-inch sewer connection). $33, double occupancy, with a $3 additional per person charge. Periodically, a few sites may not be available for a 40' or longer RVs due to the size of the parking lot and orientation of the spaces. are available. Reservable Campsites: 20 sites are available by reservation, 5 are held for first come, first-served campers. Register at the Rio Grande Village store/service station, or call 1-877-386-4383, or 432-477-2293.

Small, side-by-side spaces. Usually booked solid. Wouldn't be my first choice, but hey, lots better than being stuck way outside the Park.

Good News! The Senate just passed a bill that is now with the house to re-open government for 3 weeks while they figure out the border thing. The POTUS as agreed to sign it. (Let's not get into any of that here!)

Just know that by the first week of February, it is very likely that Big Bend NP will be open.

For those interested, I have started a page of photos of the 2019 Quartzsite Gathering. I'll add more images to it as the rally continues.

That is a bit vague for a newbie like me. Is Dome Rock Rd the frontage road? Or is it before Dome Rock Rd when coming from the west? If not, can we get our spot and unhook then go back into town to get the permit? We will be approaching from the west.

Anyhow, the host site where you fill out the paperwork to officially get your 14 day permit (assuming the government shutdown is over) is N 33.64957, W 114.27163. If the host is there and on duty, he will have an American flag flying on a pole next to his trailer.

My location, if I can get the same area I had last year is N 33.64356, W114.30594. Greg (the rally host & the registration table) usually sets up in that general area.
Found my answer - thanks!

Hi Jill....exit Dome Rock Rd. when approaching from West. Made the mistake not to which is why I remember. Otherwise it is a longer trek to the Eggspot.

We’ll be coming over from the Palm Desert, CA area on Thursday. It sounds like BLM permit station is east of the fiberglass RV site. Should we head over and get the BLM permit before setting up at the fiberglass RV site? Or set up first, then head over to get the BLM permit?

Thank you in advance for you advice. See you all tomorrow!

I don't know if the flag is broken or the pole, but for the last couple of days he has been registering folks without flying the flag. There is a sign stating Host On/Off Duty, but it is too small to read from the road.

The easiest way to meet people is to approach them with a smile on your face, put your hand out (to shake) and say, "Hi, I'm Dana."

I went to the 50th Boler event this summer and made 450 new friends!

Donna D's advice is very good...

also if you hang out a bit in the central gathering area Greg (Camp Master) and anyone else there are all very, very nice.

Also you can just wander around a bit and when you see someone by their rig simply say something nice about their setup... ie... "Hey, how you doing? Gosh I like that bumper sticker - where did you get that?" (or whatever) as a conversation starter. Works great.

Big Thank You

Jan and I would like to Thank all our fellow Escapers who took time out of their day to talk with us. We were unsettled on finalizing our our Build Sheet for our 5.0TA. So we drove over from Casa Grande and spent Friday and Saturday walking around the rally and talking with many fine people about their Escapes, what a informative and pleasant experience. We now are settled with our option content and can finalize our build sheet! We will return near year as Rally Campers with our new 5.0TA.
Special shout out to Sandy for hooking us up with the hitch!
Thanks again to all! Travel Safe

I tried this when I was in sales
“Hey that’s a good looking pickup truck = positive result
Wow that’s a pretty dog, what kind is he? = positive result
Those are two good looking boys you have =positive result
Man, your wife is really hot= punch in the nose.
So be careful with those compliments.
