Debbie and I had a great time going cross-country last year and are looking forward to doing it again. Our two primary destination points will be New Orleans for 3-4 days and 5 days at The Eggshell in The Outer Banks Rally, October 6-9, 2017. On our way back, we hope to visit a good friend in Sedona, Arizona.
We haven't been to the Outer Banks in over 35 years, but vowed to get back. 2017 is that year.

New Rates and New Online Form

There’s great news for all reservations—we have so many rally-goers, the rally discount rate for Oct. 6-9 has been further reduced. (That includes you, Steve and Debbie!) Nightly rates are now $60 for soundfront, $45 for non-soundfront, and $35 for tent sites. Sound side sites are going quickly.

Now registration is even easier with an online form. Simply fill it out, and you’ll automatically receive a confirmation letter with Camp Hatteras reservation information. For registration, please go to: Eggshells in The Outer Banks - Fiberglass Travel Trailer Rally

We look forward to a great event.

Donate Today- Get a Buoy Gift Bag

In lieu of a registration or rig fee, Eggshells in The Outer Banks turns to sponsors to help make the event happen. Even with the great sponsorship we’re receiving this year, we still could use of a bit of additional support.

If you’re as excited about the 2017 rally as we are and want to make a small contribution of $15, we’ll thank you with a Buoy Bag. It’s filled with handcrafted gifts such as a Flemish flake coaster set, rally memorabilia including the 2017 rally sticker, an extra door prize ticket, great product samples and more.

Only 48 bags have been assembled, so if you make a donation now we’ll reserve a bag for you at rally registration. It’s our way of saying thank you in advance!

To make a donation please go to Eggshells in The Outer Banks - Fiberglass Travel Trailer Rally

The Story of this Year's Rally

Sometimes it takes an “I’m confused” email by a rally attendee to make me realize I might need to explain a bit better on how things are structured. Tonight I got that email questioning if this is a teardrop rally instead of a Casita rally. Let me share what I shared with him:

Eggshells in The Outer Banks was a rally started two years ago as molded fiberglass travel trailer rally. All brands welcome. (I own a Scamp).

This year I approached all the molded fiberglass manufacturers for sponsorship in lieu of a rig fee, and Liberty Outdoors (the new owners of ParkLiner) wanted to be the exclusive sponsor. Along with them comes their entire brand line, in addition to the 2nd generation ParkLiner.

The teardrop/Little Guy owners also wanted to bring their 5th annual Tearstock rally to us this year, because their usual campground in Ohio is under renovations for 2017. Seeing how this would be a "more the merrier" opportunity with Liberty Outdoors providing additional benefits for us, I agreed to have them join us for one big grand rally.

Although it may sound like they dominate the weekend, real bookings reflect about a 50% mix, with maybe a few more eggs represented. The site bookings are around 130, so that's at least 65-70 eggs (with a handful of Escapes).

The thing I dig the most about the teardrop clan, is they know how to do an outdoor party! If we're sharing rally camp with anyone, these are the folks to do it with.

We’re looking forward to see you next week and get ready for an extraordinary time in OBX. With the combined effort of Liberty Outdoors sponsorship and donations, there is NO RIG FEE. Just FREE catered meals, FREE live entertainment, FREE swag, etc. I need a trailer behind my trailer to bring you all the goodies we have!

If you haven’t booked yet, this is your last weekend to do so before the rally:

Well, 3200+miles in 14 Days, and Debbie and I were the first Escape to arrive at Camp Hatteras. The Rally doesn’t officially begin until Friday, but we were too excited to stay away. It is beautiful here. The Camp suffered no storm damage, only a little sand on Hwy. 12.
It should be a pretty big event with over 130 molded fiberglass trailers on the registration.
The weather is hard to take; yesterday a Hi of 76 and an overnight Low of 69! Tonight, an overnight forecast of *70. Light breezes are wafting.

How did that Ford Explorer do on the cross-country trip gas wise? Which motor does it have?

It has the 3.5 Liter V-6, Jim. Non-E/B. 290 HP. We travel at 60 mph and got 15 mpg. That’s pretty consistent. Depending on terrain and wind, we get anywhere from 13.5-16.5,with the average right around 15. It handles the Rockies, Sierras and Appalachians fine. Long, sustained grades at 3500-4000 rpm and 55 mph.

That is pretty good for a v-6 and a 21 Escape.

We couldn’t be happier. All the comfort and conveniences of an SUV, including the large cargo area. The 2017’s now offer the 3.5 with E/B. In 2015, the only E/B was the 2.7 and a tow rating of 3500 lbs. If I were buying today, I’d be hard pressed to change. The 3.5 has performed so well! 21.5 City/Highway combined when not towing.

A huge Thank-You and a big hug to Jeannine Patane for organizing, coordinating, and conducting a fabulous 4 days in Camp Hatteras! Your tireless efforts, from the check-in, Friday Night Dinner, presentations, DJ on The Beach, Breakfast, and check-out, made for a wonderful experience for us all.

Thanks, Jeannine!
