Green Eggs and Ham VIII - Mar 14-18, 2018

The 2018 rally of Green Eggs and Ham VIII will be held at Gunter Hill, Corps of Engineer (COE) Campground on the outskirts of Montgomery, Alabama on Wednesday, March 14th through Sunday March 18th. There will be a lot of green to be seen in Gunter Hill on St Patrick’s Day.

The rally has a new Website that should give you all the information you’ll need to know. Beginning September 8, 2017, the Website will also offer online registration and rig fee payment through PayPal. Please sign up ASAP after open registration so all the Event Masters have a fairly accurate head count for their preparations.

Thanks. You made my evening.
Funny, because those are the 2 biggest things Shorty loves about the site!

Reservations now open for the Rally

It’s time to make your reservations for Green Eggs and Ham! Sites are getting reserved fast. To get in on the fun, go to Green Eggs and Ham - Alabama Fiberglass Travel Trailer Rally

If you have any questions, please allow at least a few days response time. I’m wandering the Hershey RV show this week in a labyrinth of RVs, and staying in a fish camp without Internet.

I checked the website and it says we cannot reserve a campsite until Friday Sept 15th. And to do the next part requires the site number we cannot get until Friday . So what's the trick to do it earlier?

It based on your arrival date. We are arriving two days before the start of the Rally on March 12 so we were able to book our site for 7 days. We are booked in site 30 near the water.

Jon, We'll be right beside you in site 46 with our 21', also a 2017 model. We have reservations for the 12th-18th, but depending on my wife's schedule, we might not pull in until the 13th. This is our 4th year at GE&H, and I think it's our 3rd year in site 46 (first two with our EggCamper, which we still have, and now our 2nd year with the Escape). Using our then $10 National Park/Federal Lands Senior Lifetime Pass (50% discount), it's only $13/day for full hook-up! We save more than enough in one night at Gunter Hill to pay for the whole lifetime pass. Can't beat that with a lodge pole pine! Oh, and my wife and I both love blueberry anything!

Karen/Ken, Just a follow-up to what Mike said. You can start reserving sites 6 months ahead of the date you plan to arrive, and then stay as many nights as you can fit in. Some "old timers" arrive several days in advance of the official start just to relax and enjoy the campground and each other's company. They will start a communal morning coffee pot going and an evening camp fire just to get the ball rolling for everyone else when they arrive. So, for example, if you wanted to arrive a few days early on March 11th, you could start reserving a site as early as September 11th (I believe after 10 am EDT that day). Thursday is always the "official" start day of the rally, and since that's March 15th of 2018, then 6 months prior is September 15th this year. I think that's right, anyway. One pre-rally activity that has pretty much become an official event for those arriving early is a group lunch at a really good Cajun restaurant in downtown old town Prattville called "Uncle Mick's" (about 15-20 minutes from the campground). It's a "they serve, one pass through" buffet, and the seating is limited, so someone will organize it and make reservations for the first 20 or so that contact them. But you can always just go on your own some other time, if you like. I've attached a window schedule from last year's GE&H Rally (pdf file) just to give you a general overview of the whole rally. Be sure to note any schedule changes on the 2018 website. Dale

Dale, thanks for posting last years schedule. It wlll give us a good idea of what to expect.
Looks like we will have a nice representation of 2017 Escape's at the rally.

Post rally, time permitting, hope to spend a some time at Perdido Key State Park and/or Fort Pickens. We love that area and make it a point to go at least once a year.

Another thing not on the schedule yet, but probably will be, is a quazi-organized open house of sorts for those willing to let others tour their home on wheels and share ideas. It varies from year to year - sometimes odd sites one day, even sights the next, sometimes tie a balloon to your trailer coupler or wrap a colored ribbon around your site post, etc. More details for 2018 will be sent out later to those who register for the rally. When you get right down to it, most folks attending the rally don't mind showing off their rig most any time after they get the bed made and the galley cleaned up after breakfast!

Jon- bring on that blueberry pie, and Dale, Thank you for an in-depth synopsis of the rally...

It’s happening! We have many rally sign ups coming in. If you haven’t RSVPed and paid a rig fee yet, please realize that several folks are currently at work on the rally and we need your full registration sooner than later.

Budgets for things like your social morning coffee, gumbo feast, chili feast, firewood, welcome bags, etc. are being planned in 2017. The longer you wait to fully register, the less we can plan to accommodate you in the rally.

That’s how event planning rolls, folks. An earlier notice contributes to more participating fun.

Please follow the three simple steps to make this grand event happen. For the many of those of you that have already completed the registration process, THANK YOU!

If you need assistance in completing registration, please contact Jeannine through email, found at: Green Eggs and Ham - Alabama Fiberglass Travel Trailer Rally

On the map the campground looks like it is divided into two sections separated by water, and one section is already reserved. How hard is it to get from one side to the other?

Hi Mike,
I believe it's about 1.5 miles, maybe a little less. To bike it, it would be rated easy on a relatively flat road with minor grades in portions. There is a walking trail between the two loops, but I'm not sure if one damaged bridge is open yet to utilize the entire trail.

There is parking at the pavilion and nearby bath house for those who prefer to drive between the two loops. If it means anything to you, "Mayor" Shorty and I both deliberately booked sites in Antioch for 2018.

Mike, As Jeannine indicated, it's a quick drive, an easy bike ride, and relaxing walk between the Catoma and Antioch loops. Right after pulling through the park entrance, you either go straight ahead to Antioch (and the boat ramp) or turn left to Catoma. Probably the only concern would be if you're planning to bring anything bulky or heavy (food, table, chairs, etc.) to any of the evening group events, you'd probably want to drive. There is plenty of parking, but the close-in parking right at the pavilion can fill quickly with Antioch folks, so come early (most Catoma folks just walk to the pavilion). It's probably worth noting that there is a fairly new Dollar General store about 2 miles before entering the park, so it's quick and easy to pick up ice or most other incidentals.

Sign Up only gets better!

As the rally creeps up on the calendar we’d like to have anyone who hasn’t completed their registration to do so, soon. To give you a heads up, the rig fee will increase in the near future, so get the Early Bird VIP rates while they last.

We just made sign-up even easier by integrating PayPal into the form. To complete your registration, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page: Green Eggs and Ham - Alabama Fiberglass Travel Trailer Rally

If you haven’t made Gunter Hill reservations yet and would like to join us for another fun year, there are approximately 20 sites still available. Get in while you can!

Have the ability to be notified as soon as new rallies are scheduled through RV Compass! Sign up for future rally notifications
