Maryhill in May 2015, 5/15-17/2015

That time again --
In case anyone wants to join us, we just made reservations at Maryhill State Park for the weekend before Memorial Day 2015 - May 15-17.

This will be the sixth year we've visited this area on this weekend - we've had small 'Not Organized' gatherings and a lot of fun in the area.
There are pictures from previous years in the links below our signature line.

Norma, the Girls and I will be in site 50 from Friday 5/15 to Sunday 5/17 (we will get there earlier, but the 15th is the first day they'll reserve, so who knows what site we'll be in then).

Please join us if you can!

Great photos Paul. Everything is so green there. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I just looked at the rates for that park and holy cow! I've never spent $45/night on camping before, which is what one of the pull through sites would be (& only $10 more than a back in site).
We'll think about it, I do love that area!

My site (50 - back in) is $37... still a lot - the river front sites are $5 more.

Washington State Park rates have gone through the roof for serviced sites but the unserviced ones are still reasonable.

It costs even more if you don't live in Washington State. They charge a non-resident fee...

The interesting thing is that they charge the non-resident fee if you book online but don't charge it if you just show up at the park as a "first come first served" camper.

I won't camp at the Washington State Parks anymore unless I can get a non hookup site, thank goodness for the solar panel. We had a site at Fort Casey that we loved and usually camped at every April. As of April 1st this year it went from $23 per night to $38 per night (elec. and water only, no sewer and no dump station on site) with a premium if you used it on the weekend ......... we now use a non hookup site when we are there as they only went up $1.

I'm thinking that the large motorhomes and trailers are somewhat to blame as they are running tons electric goodies and are using the full 30 amps just about 24/7. Recently at Fort Casey I saw a guy at at electric site who had a generator running as well as being hooked up; how he had the electrics set up was beyond me but he obviously need more then the 30 amps. that was provided on site!!

Easy to do: there are Y-adapters that combine power from two outlets (normally one 30-amp, one 15-amp or 20-amp) into one 50-amp power cord - the 50-amp service contains two circuits and each source feeds one of them. He probably used that type of Y-adapter, plugging one side into the campground power and the other into his generator. This would allow him to run two air conditioners, plus other miscellaneous stuff.

I'm not saying anyone should do this; just noting that it is straightforward to do and an RV big enough for two air conditioners might easily lead to someone doing it.

Yep. And in my case it might easily lead to me finding another campground. People want to take their mansion with them. IMHO that defeats the entire purpose of camping.

Different strokes for different folks. And aren't we glad. Otherwise it would be five year wait to get a new Escape trailer

First come, first serve doesn't count for this particular weekend at Maryhill. Unless you can plan to come at the last moment based one someone cancelling, the park will be full months in advance.

A running generator could easily drive me away, too - that's why there are rules for those things.

On the other hand, you won't see me leaving a campground because I have decided that others should follow exactly my decisions. I'm sure many tent campers grumble that owners of all travel trailers - including Escapes - are taking their entire house with them, and thus defeating the purpose of camping.

So, at exactly what level are we decreeing - for everyone else - what the correct or acceptable degree of camping equipment is? Will it exclude many of the more highly-equipped Escapes? Is it "camping" to travel in a 15A without air, but "not camping" to use an unnecessarily large 17B with air and a bathroom that isn't needed because there are outhouses? It's hardly camping to sit in a plastic box with air conditioning, cooking in a microwave and watching TV while updating your Facebook status and listening to music streamed over mobile internet, is it? Or maybe it is, if that's what you choose.

Not decreeing anything bro. Just not my cup of tea. To each his own.

We had to cancel out on site 36 a month or so ago. It may be open now, dunno. I think I put that up on fiberglassrv but not here, apparently.

Maryhill 2015 pictures

Maryhill 2015 was a great long weekend - Lots of new people attended and the weather was great despite all the wet forecasts...tee shirt temperatures & light winds until late Sunday night.

Norma loaded her photos to Shutterfly as usual.... I haven't gotten around to adding the captions yet (as usual).... We'll be there again the weekend before Memorial Day 2016.
