Amazing expending camper

Just going around the good ole interweb and found this little article.

This Camper Expands to Three Times Its Size - Beauer 3X Camper

Nifty idea.

It's been posted on here before. The one issue I see right off the bat is that RV parks and campgrounds are designed with narrower and longer spaces with stationary water, sewer and power connections, which might mean no room to expand the trailer in both directions. Just from a campground practicality standpoint, if it expanded longitudinally instead of laterally it would fit better.

Hadn't thought of that. European caravan parks tend to be open fields with plenty of room for something like it.

Maybe light enough to easily pivot 90 degrees, before expanding
Either way - a cool concept!

The web page, which shows a copyright date in 2014, says that the basic trailer "is patented and manufactured in France", while the truck-mounted version is "Available in 2015" and the larger trailer is "Available in 2016." Translated from proposal-speak to the real world, that means it's not in production, and the idea has stalled so badly that they have not even maintained the website for three years.

My guess is that no more than a couple of prototypes of the 3X have been built. They did get the Seattle Times to publish (in an article that is clearly just advertising) that it is "coming to the U.S. and Canada in 2017", but the author has not likely even seen a prototype, let alone production models or a distribution commitment.

I asked the manufacturer about availability, and their response included this:
Quote:
We are now launching sales in France and then in Europe.
We intend obviously to set up a distribution in Canada and the USA but the choice of retailer and release date have not yet been decided
We will not hesitate to keep you informed when this choice has been determined.
the 3X marketing price in France is 31500 $CAD (excluded VAT) ex works
So the dates were all fiction, but now the first model is really coming out... maybe.
