Dometic 9500 Power Case Awning
This design is typically found on high-end Class A motorhomes and custom RVs and specialty vehicles. The biggest one I've seen was on the side of an IndyCar team transporter, running most of the length of the trailer and extending over the entire width of the service area beside it - at least 3 metres (10 feet).

is the previous awning with metal supports still going to be available?
The supports for the new awning are metal - they're just horizontal, rather than vertical or angled down from the outer edge of the awning to the bottom of the trailer.

The supporting arms are not immediately apparent, but you can see them under the fabric. They fold horizontally, instead of telescoping or folding down. Dometic's online descriptions are lousy, but the beginning of the video posted by Camping World shows the arms pretty clearly.

The arms need to be really substantial, as would any beam only a few centimetres (inches) high reaching out that far; the 16-foot version of this awning (assuming I've found the right one) weighs 46 kg (102 lb)... this one is shorter and so lighter, but it's still a substantial chunk of hardware... presumably at least 36 kg or 78 lb.

This is certainly a major change! Reace, the mounting recess is apparent, but what did you need to go in the body structure to handle the forces on the awning mounting area? The weight of the awning (and vertical loads due to winds) multiplied by the long lever arm of the awning extension is a lot of torque. I've never seen this type of awning on a fiberglass shell structure like this.

The previous awning design required bending of the awning arms to follow the curved side of the trailer. Some other awning designs were impractical due to that curve. It's interesting that an awning that is not affected by curved walls is introduced at the same time as flat trailer sides.

Good catch!

Reace - has that vent just not been cut in yet? If the trailer has a propane refrigerator, it needs the intake; if it has an electric-only refrigerator (and I assume it doesn't, since 3-way is standard), it doesn't need the roof exhaust vent which is visible.

Larger 28 gallon fresh water tank
Have any of the tank locations (fresh or grey) changed?

Details can wait for later posts or topics - just identifying some of the information which would be appreciated, eventually.

The flat door has been accommodated by flattening the entire side of the trailer, so it fits in nicely... but there are reasons that the side was curved in the first place. Reace, what's it like to get these parts out of the moulds, with zero draft in the sides? It seems like it would be especially tough with the upper and lower parts bonded together before demoulding, so it isn't flexible. Multi-part moulds would work, but seem like an unlikely solution.

That is very good news. The 8 series has caused ETI enough troubles. 24.88" wide, so the new entry door makes that possible.

I got your back Jack. I prefer the old look, windows, awning, hideaway screen etc. too. I hate to say it but if I would have been waiting on this new model, I think I would have been a
little bit dissappointed. Oh well, as we like to say, we got ours, it's every couple for themselves. Don't think the used market is going to be hurt one bit.

There are support arms underneath the fabric that scissor out.

The Fridge vent is identical to ours.

I'm happy with our 2016 we just signed off on. You were right, Jim B, when you said there would be some who prefer the old style. What happens when there is a breeze but not enough that you would want the awning to retract, but it takes that decision away from you? Nope, I prefer the big old "clunky" awning...

And with dogs, I like having the retractable screen so they can't scratch at it like the ones that are attached to the door. They have a tendency to put holes in those type.

As I look at this the Driver Famous Dave is on his way to deliver our New 21'. I love ours that is coming and I love the new ones. The power remote awning sounds cool, but hey I am happy I have one and can get camping. Nice changes and excited to see the ones to come. Who knows maybe we will sometime decide to upgrade to a 5.0TA at some point.....

I'm curious about the missing intake for the refer? The new door is nice, no more gap issues. I hope they are insulated. There are kits available to make the door window open. The screen door can easily be modified like those in the Airstream with dog guard screens, you can now leave the door open with your dogs inside. My 12v awning on the Lance had the vertical arms, as Brian indicates, this set up must have special reinforcement. I love that the rear window now opens and that the small bath/kitchen are split awning style with just the bottom opening versus the others opening the entire length.

Looks great and I like the changes. I'm just glad there are not enough changes to make me to have to upgrade.
