What are you referring to as far as adjustment after deploying, Greg? It goes in and out, that is about the only adjustment. You can adjust the pitch some too, but that is not something you would do regularly in the field.

One can't angle the electric versions for rain run-off?

They can angle a bit, but will 'dump' when an excess of water builds up, basically just bend down a bit.

So they can pull themselves in if the wind is too gusty and they can tilt too? I wonder how many degrees it can tilt electrically? I would think that would take a second motor?

Or just the weight would dump it and spring back up?

You are mostly right. They do automatically retract in strong winds. The tilt is only manually adjustable, and is not something you can result adjust.

And yes, the weight is what causes the awning to dump.

Referring to normal awning adjustment in the field as the angle of the sun changes or wind situations exist or occur. A normal deployment for us would involve changing the slope after deployment anywhere from 5 degrees to 30 degrees and tilting front or rear corners to allow for wind conditions as they arise up to a 30+ degree down angle on the windward corner. Many of the awning deployments in the pics from Osoyoos showed awnings adjusted to all kinds of angles and detents. Field conditions require awning adjustments with all those angles sometimes throughout the day in order to get full benefit from an awning. The current awnings do all of this, but have not seen these capabilities in the new awning. I'm hopeful the awning change will allow a full range of motion in awning adjustments after deployment and not just straight out and straight in.

Does anyone know what model the manual option would be? Would it be similar to the electric one with no side arms, or more like the ones used in previous models.

I did also notice with the electric Carefree awning that you can't manually extend it, only retract it. Glad I got solar - hopefully I'll never have a dead battery. After 12 years with an Aliner, an awning is one of the things I look forward to most (and not having the fridge at floor level!).

You could do a replacement canopy, $150 or so. Replacing manual awning fabric isn't too hard a job for 2 people, no idea about electric though.

Gotcha. Because of it's inherant wind protection that aspect for change of slope would not be needed, nor for shedding rain. But, if you want to dip it for further sun protection, then there is no way to do that.

Even when doing the pitch adjustment the instructions state to make sure both arms are on the same plane, so definitely no dipped corners.

For us, almost always our awning is set up with the initial trailer setup upon getting to the site, and taken down when packing up. Other than camping in Osoyoos, wind has never been an issue for us with many 100's of nights of use. We do always adjust the pitch away from the door steeper to allow water to easily drain in heavy downpour.

After seeing and playing with the Dometic brand of this type of awning, I am certainly stoked to give one a whirl. It should meet our needs 95% of the time, it looks way better, and operates simply and easily. How many folks have had issues learning (and relearning) how to properly deploy and close up their conventional awning? Heck, I bet my wife would have trouble with it still, after 25 years of having one. This will not be an issue with this type, as it is simply just the push of a button.

Think I'll just stay happy with my old 2013model manual awning Carefree that doesn't do anything unless I do it to it. All this fancy motorized erotica is asking for trouble. Just nuts.

Well I certainly do listen to the wisdom of all the wise people here

But I have decided to go for the power awning, so as the 2017 comes built.

We don't full time, so the wear and war on it will be way less then.

I accept that something with a motor is probably more likely to break than a manual one.

But the speed and convenience of deployment will be nice.

Our Casita awning has been used less than I thought - as when we are traveling and are only staying one night - we wouldn't put up the awning.

And

The casita awning is super fragile - and in a lot of places wind or weather could easily kick up during a day when we are out hiking or driving.
So we would leave the awning stowed.

This whole push button awning in and out will be awesome!!!

NW Cat Owner,

We just visited the factory a couple of days ago and asked the same question. The answer was "no", they will be providing the neutral sand/tan color as their standard awning color.
