We will . I have noticed the current door is not as thick as the older 2 we had (Dometic)with freezer inside also almost same size . I am thinking not enough insulation and those holes to close up . Can't wait . Pat

Well, won't wonders never cease? We certainly did not expect this outcome. Despite Reace's periodic reports on this forum of his efforts to address the problem, as time went on, we were discouraged that a viable solution would be forthcoming. Dometic's offer to replace the old model with their RMD 8555 6.7 double door unit (which we assume is at no cost for the unit itself) is rather astounding. Of course, Dometic's response, while itself commendable, would not have happened without Reace's intervention. His dogged efforts to produce a solution for the subpar performance of the single door unit speaks volumes about his character-- especially as the problem was not of Escape's making. We are happy, and grateful, campers.

Having replaced your fridge in Canada or the USA is one thing, having it replaced in the Netherlands is a whole different case.
We'll see if Dometic will go the extra (Dutch) mile.
I'll send you my contact details.
Seef,

It appears that Dometic uses Electrolux as their agent in The Netherlands. On the Dometic website, it looks like the nearest facility would be at:
Vennootsweg 1
Alphen a/d Rijn, 2404 GG
Tel. +31,172,468,300
Fax. +31 - 172 - 468 255

I'm assuming that these replacement doors are taken from a different, but existing model of 4.3 cu ft Dometic refrigerators(?). Anyone know for sure?

Yes, I've been researching exterior gas vents and one website says "Dometic formerly Electrolux"

"As per Reace’s post on the Escape Forum we were given seven doors as a sample to give to our customers with the RM8551 Dometic Fridge. These doors have additional insulation in them and have been provided in hopes of improving the fridge performance".

Two doors have been accounted for.

I'm guessing that Dometic may be a spin-off of Electrolux (a Sweden-based company); which could explain a service relationship.

This has to be the most exciting news for us! Thank you so much Reace and ETI! We have been travelling non stop since we picked up "The Pickled Egg" last July. Mostly in very warm climates. It has been a non stop battle with the fridge. It was like Christmas for us a couple days ago when we finally got decent internet again (3 months in Baja). So hats off from us ETI!

As a side note, a bit of info on the RMD8555 performance. We have camped where it's mostly cool or cold, but we did camp one day in central Idaho where it got up to 86 degrees, and today in Monument Valley where it's in the mid 80's. The fridge has been rock solid so far, set at 4 and maintaining about 36 degrees. The freezer freezes food rock hard. We haven't camped in truly hot weather yet, I grant you, but so far we are quite happy with it.

Thanks for the great news. Ours is being updated, hopefully before we pick it up in May but I know ETI is at the mercy of Dometic for processing and delivery.

Hi Glenn,

thanks for that one! n First thing to do, get the serial number of the fridge and send Reace an e-mail. Trailer is not in reach right now.

Will be in the next week or 2.

Maybe, if were very lucky we have a new fridge before we go on our vacation.

You never know, wonders do happen sometimes.

Tammy and I are currently on our way down to Texas. While in Death Valley, the temp was 93 degrees. Fridge temp averaged 36 degrees. Have to travel with it on 12v as the flame keeps blowing out. Holds temp ok on 12v, but looses about 1degree while driving. When we stop for anything I switch to propane. Stopped at Hoover Dam for couple hrs...fridge came down from around 39 degrees to 36 degrees on propane.

Definitely not 100 degree heat tests, but over all, I am pretty happy with it. Tammy is happy because I am not staring at the thermometer every 2 seconds anymore!

Dennis is also travelling with us and he has the old 6.7. He is not having as much success with his as we are. He will swap his fridge when we return.

Something else I found...the temperature sensor that stays in the fridge for the wireless thermostat reads much more accurately if it is standing up and not touching anything. I had a Mercury t stat also in the fridge and they didn't read the same until it moved the sensor. I travel with the main unit sitting on the back seat of the truck. I can tell right away when it falls over because the temp starts rising. Next stop, prop it back up and down goes the temp...nice!

Workin our way to Texas so maybe more heat tests to report.

Refrigerator Flame Blowing Out While Driving

Reace,

I would be curious if you find a solution to the problem of the flame blowing out while driving. You experienced a similar problem while driving in Oregon on your last trip. There are at least four owners of the 6.7 fridge here on the forum who have experienced this issue plus at least one person with the 5.0 fridge. I being one with the problem of keeping the 6.7 lit while driving. I have checked the regulator pressure and its right at 11 WC and I have tried reducing the air flow through the lower vent by using a furnace filter, both to no avail. I have not looked at or done anything to the top vent.
