They're on the side on the Classic....

At the top nose on the new 5er
That's my point: these are lights for a different function; Donna, you're talking about these lights as if they are functionally the same, just placed differently.

The lights on the front of the 5.0 TA have an entirely different purpose and do not replace the ones on the side of the old 5.0 as far as the requirements are concerned. The 5.0 TA needs the ones on the sides (like the old 5.0) plus the ones on the front. The requirement difference (due to the width) is an addition, not a move.

To confuse things, Reace has also apparently eliminated the upper side marker lights - I don't see any reason for that, unless he feels that the front clearance lights will also serve (effectively, although not legally) as side markers. That would make it a move with a functional change.

Normally pin weight of a 5th is between 14 and 20% of total trailer weight.

The 5.0 SA had an approximate total dry weight of 2620 lbs, dry pin weight was just under 18% at 480 lbs.
As stated the TA will weigh an extra 500 lbs then total dry is 3120 lbs * .18 = 561 lbs for the pin, dry. Add whatever for loaded.

Our F150 will has 2200 lbs payload before us and the hitch, it'll do.

Aren't they? I don't see any on the side up at the top. I checked on the 21 brochure and yes, they're also on the top front. So, that answers that.

The 21 has side marker lights at the front of the body, down low, below the belt line. The 5.0TA has also has them, same location. So both trailers have the front side markers and the forward facing markers.

Hi: All... I suspect that Reace has "Seen the light" and knows enough not to hide them under a basket!!! I'm sure he knows where they're supposed to go too!!!
We have put "Our Escape hatch" on a severe diet after dragging to much stuff to Florida... and more home. This will certainly carry over to "Escape Hatch II". Alf

The difference is that on the 21' they are at the front of the body, while the lower location on the 5.0 (original or TA) is not the front of the (upper) body. That doesn't meet the federal requirement to be "as far forward as practicable", which is presumably why ETI placed another set high and forward on the side of the original 5.0.

Yes, they both have the front clearance lights - due to the width - unlike the narrower original 5.0

Compared to the original, the 5.0 TA gains the front clearance lights (as required by width), but is missing the forward side markers (even though they are still required). Donna sees this as a move, which is fine, but it's like moving your headlights to the back to use them as backup lights: they are not just differently placed headlights, they are no longer headlights at all.

Maybe Reace just has a couple more lights to install...

Perfectly good guessing, but I was wondering if Reace had given any indication of the pin weight of the trailer which he's actually building. Of course, with no interior yet, it's probably too early to ask... but it will matter to Alf's truck.
