Since our's isn't built yet, I'm hoping that by the time it is, ETI goes with a different model of fridge. Hopefully, the "less energy efficient" models that are not for sale in the EU, or one with a 'tropical' climate rating. Barring that, I'd like to go with ac/dc. Seeing just how many owners in cooler climates have experienced the cooling issues, It's a sure bet these 85xx series won't work for South Texas.

We are thinking the same thing. South Florida is tropical-- temps are above 80F most of the time. It was 82 F at 11 pm last night. The current model of fridge..even if modified..will not work effectively.

Second that. South Louisiana is worse. It's hot and muggy here most of the year, except Dec thru March. Since my completion date is not until March 9, 2015, I'm hoping this fridge
Issue will be resolved by then.

CatMike, we most certainly will meet at ETI next March. I read every word of this forum just to keep up, but this refer issue has me a little worried. However, Reace seems like the kind of guy we need on this issue.

True! I'm confident Reace will offer a different fridge by then, or have another solution.

There are several Dometic models that are designed for hotter climates, with similar dimensions and capacities to the 85xx series. They include the Americana and the Classic series.
