They really should have chains from the ball mount to the roof rack, would be more stable, laughing......

I bet it would not be allowed almost anywhere. I would love to see how much weight is lost on the front tires.

It's obviously unsound, but it's not obvious to me what regulation is being violated. Note: common sense and intelligence are generally not required by vehicle regulations.

It's straightforward to estimate: the ball appears to be rearward of the rear axle by about 80% of the Xterra's wheelbase, and the tongue weight of a Scamp 19' is at least 400 pounds, so at least 320 pounds is transferred off of the front axle and onto the rear (in addition to the tongue weight carried by the rear). That's very bad, but still a small part of the front axle load (which is over a ton as the Xterra sits before loading or hitching).

In California: (1)Unsafe Load; (2)Less than 4 inch clearance to road surface.

Interesting - I haven't seen a minimum road clearance before. "Unsafe load" would require more definition.

I doubt this rig has ever attracted an actual violation ticket, or ever will. In most places, if you obey traffic signs and signals, and don't hit anything, you'll likely never get a ticket, regardless of the safety of the vehicle.

That's not so unexpected on page 7 of a thread where the pertinent info was pretty well covered by the end of page 2.

Minimum clearance used to be generally accepted as 4". Now, the definitions can be different. California's, for instance, is height from the wheel rim to the ground, so if you loose a tire, then the frame, etc. isn't digging into the pavement.

Unsafe load is a field call based on the likelihood of loss of control due to response to unusual road conditions or emergency maneuvers. This rig has 'trouble' written all over it!

Edit: E.G.: High-centering and stuck at a railroad crossing (and a 15,000 ton freight train is about 3 minutes away at 40 mph.)

Someone should write up a clear and measurable driving violation that a set up like this can be escorted off the road and easily stand up in court. We are getting entertained by the pic but we all know this could kill someone on the roadways

I agree, my wish was for a 21 or 23 with queen bed at least like the 19. I have spoke to Maine boat manufactures as to why they are not in the Fiberglass Egg TT biz and it has led to a group industry meeting, Down East Maine is the leader in FRP lobster boat and mold manufactures, same work but Egg TT market has 10K boomers a week I understand as compared to a total of 15k lobstermen and the fishery is capped

the 21's bed is only 6" narrower than a regular Queen, and having the bed longitudinal makes it much easier for either party to get out of bed without climbing over the other.

I'd love to see a walk-around full queen, but that would require at least a 7' wide interior (60" for the mattress, and a 12" aisle on each side).

maybe a 23' could have a lateral shower in the front like the Casita, with a closet next to it, and still have room for a dinette, with a rear queen bed? I dunno, I like having the dinette in the rear as thats usually the better view where I'm camping.

I'm not a big fan of the 19's mid bath, as it greatly cuts down on aisle width and makes the interior somewhat claustrophobic.

That's the width of a standard "double" (or "full") size, so the 21' bed could be described as a long double

I've seen 54x80 listed as a 'Full XL', and in fact you can get fitted sheets in that size, albeit not quite the same selection

The 19’s queen bed is a walk around. That’s what I tell all my friends who camp in those enormous sized trailers. (I don’t tell them you have to walk outside to get around)

XL = extra long (80" compared to the usual 75" for twin/double/full) and Full = double (the 54" width), so that makes sense; it's good to have the name used by suppliers to find bedding.

I guess that makes the 5.0TA a "crawl around"....or maybe a "walk under"
