How did you get from the Camp Chef flare fitting to the QC fittings? I am having trouble locating an appropriate fitting. Also, did you add an elbow at the stove?

Thanks

I bought 2 of these Robot Check

On the Webber Q when I unscrewed the regulator the 1/4 inch QC above screwed into the fitting on the grill. On the Ranger ii I bought a female 3/8 to 1/4 reducer at Home Depot and then screwed the QC connector into that and onto the stove. I didn't have any need for an elbow, but one could be added if desired.

I bought the flare to pipe thread fittings needed at Lowe's. The only reason I put an elbow on (see photo in my previous post) was the Ranger II would not fit in the plastic tote I wanted to store it in if the QD male fitting projected straight out. It fits in with about 1/16-inch (a few mm) clearance with the elbow.

The following quotes were my description of fittings for my Porta-Chef grill, and Jim Bennett's setup for his Spitfire grill, both of which have the same 3/8" male flare fitting on the appliance:

Some of us have Porta Chef grills that can be converted (without replacing the control).

As I noted earlier...

From local suppliers I ended up with a three-piece adapter assembly on the grill, too, but with different parts. Here are the parts - the 1/4" pipe thread joint is already screwed together (suppliers of these fittings often do this at no charge, and do it well). The part on the left has a female 3/8" SAE flare socket on each side.

Before modification, the hose comes off the back of the control, and ends in a regulator intended to be screwed into a tank valve... but I use it on the end of a high-pressure hose from the RV's propane tank.

I took off the hose (easy - it's a SAE flare just like Jim's Spitfire and many others) and screwed on the adapters (again easy - no more pipe threads, just two flare connections).

The hose gets the connector with valve and a couple of adapters. I included the elbow so that the hose hangs down instead of being forced to bend.

Of course, if I end up with a low-pressure supply from a trailer, I can just use a low-pressure quick-connect extension hose to connect the trailer's port to the grill (the hose with regulator would not be needed).

for a very limited time - the Ranger 2 stove is on sale for $80 at amazon. New, from amazon directly.

it is usually $95.

https://www.amazon.com/Ranger-II-Bli.../dp/B004LWIAPA

act NOW if you want this. I bet the price lasts less than 24 hours.

you are very welcome

price is still $79.49 today - Oct 5, 2016 on amazon

I used a web browser plugin called CamelCamelCamel to watch the price for me, and then to email me when it dropped below $85. (as I was not in a rush to get one)

Free, and seems to work well. A smart relative suggested it to me, and it is cool.

Hey, thanks a ton for alerting us to this great price. I've had my eye on this stove for a long time -- now I'll have one in a few days. The old Coleman finally gets handed off to a niece. Yippee!

Hi all

I have read this whole thread, twice, and my pea brain has a hard time understanding everything …. never used fancy propane stuff such as all this.

We will have the extra propane outlet on the 2017 21’ (we get it early 2017)

I will buy the propane Y that Greg A suggests.
Propane Quick Connect Y Adapter - RV Fitting - propanegear

I have on order the Camp Chef Ranger II Table Top Stove.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LWIAPA/

I also own the big Camco Campfire In A Can (great for CA drought)
https://www.amazon.com/Camco-58035-C.../dp/B00G258GPI

I understand that Escape will provide us with ONE low pressure 12’ hose (?)

I’m trying to figure out what exactly I’ll need to order from Amazon to make all this work.

Will I need to buy TWO of these? (one for stove, one for Campfire in Can - ?)

Camco 59903 Propane Quick-Connect Fitting - 1/4" NPT x Full Flow Male Plug
https://www.amazon.com/Camco-59903-P.../dp/B007HG7WUQ

and should I buy ONE of these Camco 10’ Quick Connect hoses?
https://www.amazon.com/Camco-57282-P...dp/B00CPYC9BC/

and then is that all I need?

and…. bonus question - - if I want the Campfire in a can more than 10 or 12’ from trailer - can i safely put 2 quick connect hoses together to get 20’?

and…. do i need to remove any regulators anywhere?

thanks. :-)

John

Well yesterday the price on Amazon (from actual amazon, not a 3rd party) jumped back up to $95

but right now, it is back to $75, new (from actual amazon) but the wait is 1-2 months.

If you are not in a rush you can order it, and wait.

Note that actual amazon is not the top seller listing, it is to the right, under where it says OTHER SELLERS.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LWIAPA

act fast. The price seems to be jumping around. and hasnt been this low for....... a long long time? I have been watching.

Wind screen

Do you use some type of wind block with this?

Haven't needed to, the burners are set down in the unit which kind of acts like a wind break, but I haven't tried cooking in a hurricane yet.

We use this stove on a fold out aluminum stand just outside the front door using just the quick connect hose ETI provided. We cook there or make coffee rather than smell up the inside. I sort of wish we had gotten the 3 burner version for even more heating space. That would allow use of 2 big pots side by side.

On a low simmer setting we needed a wind barrier even in a light breeze. We bought for $2 at Yokoyaya (a Japanese variety store similar to Daiso) an aluminum stove wind break that was very light and large that folded very flat. Worked very well! Great stove on our quick connect!

Although this windscreen is no longer available there are others like it. We bought a windscreen for the Ranger stove and use it as a grease shield behind the stove inside as well. Works great.

Update - the Camco QC 10' hose https://www.amazon.com/Camco-57282-P...dp/B00CPYC9BC/ is about $20 right now... was $40 in August.

Remember you do get one QC hose supplied with the trailer, at least you used to, that is about 12 foot.

The hose is part of the $160.00 exterior propane quick connect option. It doesn't just come with the trailer.

Exactly! There would be no need for a propane hose without the quick connect fitting to plug into.
