camp chef

Looks like a great little stove but it is $218 on amazon.ca. And the amazon.com vendors won't ship to Canada.

Console yourself that you don't have to lug around a large, heavy stove.

Ok I am going to ask (yet another) (dumb) question.

The quick connect fitting the gas comes out of. On the escape (optional) QC.

Male or female?

I would guess female from the pics. But can't be sure.

Thanks.

Is there a lighter option that will plug directly into the escape LP exterior propane system like this will? Would love to hear about it.

I donno. Just read some reviews when looking to see what was being talked about.
I use a BBQ and one or two butane stoves. ( and, of course there are three propane burners in the trailer ).

It is not much heavier or larger than a Coleman, and built WAY better.

REI will ship to Canada, and it is cheaper there.

I haven't noticed any issues with size or weight with this stove. All I've noticed is how much better it operates than others I've had and it will truly simmer. The shape is also conducive to finding a perfectly sized Rubbermaid bin to store it in for travel.

I found Sterilite Stacker Totes at WM. The 10 Gal size handles the Camp Chef and stores
underneath the bed in our 21. I got another 10, some 4's and a 19 to store things stacked in the back of the pickup.

The link here is for multiples, but you can mix and match individually though it requires a trip to WM:

How about that comes to about $218 CDN what a coincidence

Might try to pick one up next time I'm in Houston

Hah. Interesting. I joined REI when I started backpacking in 1973. Back then membership was $1.

Rei

I joined in about 1969. If I remember correctly you used to get a dividend based on your purchases? We bought two down bags which are still very functional 40+ years ago from REI. We keep them in the vehicle all winter long here in the upper Midwest. REI always had pretty darn good products. I always marveled at their ice axe selection. And other mountain climbing stuff.

Thank you all for the useful info.
Has anyone used this stove on a plastic table? Will the Ranger II melt a plastic table?
Thanks-
Jim

We have used ours a few times on wooden and plastic picnic tables. So far, no problems -- and, finally, we're able to simmer stuff, which was a challenge with our old Coleman propane stove.

However, your plastic table might not be the same as our plastic table, and so this should not be construed as a guarantee, warranty, promise or other reassurance. Because lawyers.

FWIIW we use our camp chef 2 on a folding plastic table... no problems YET

didn't think to check, tho.

A wood cutting board under it would be not a bad idea.

Love the stove BTW.

After using our Ranger II for a few weeks now, I must say I am very impressed. The burners put out a great deal of heat, yet simmer wonderfully, especially with the inner flame ring. I have had it for a year now, but just got around to using it with the LP QC. Beats the crap outta any of the many Coleman's and other similar stoves I have used.

We used this stove on a lifetime folding table(plastic) a lot. It never occurred to me the type of the table matters for a self contained stove unit.
