Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
Jim,
So I don't do something stupid and buy things I don't need, my plan was to buy one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-High-P...d=MTSPM62JO3T0
And then go directly to my Coleman stove. Would I need anything else?
Looking at the old forums, do I understand you added the quick connect to your Escape later? what do you use your quick connect for?
Klaus

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
Klaus,
I'll take a picture of my hose and the quick disconnect and get it posted. I just haven't figured out the end that connects to my stove, so far. Rease does the quick disconnect at the factory. If you want to hook to a cylinder, then what you have shown there is fine, but not to your trailers quick disconnect. I carry an extra cylinder of gas right now, and hook it up with the hose they provided (with the stove).

To keep the feet from sinking in soft material on the ground, use two pieces of ply wood, each the same size : one under the feet between the feet and the ground.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
Klaus, like Dan said, the adapter and hose in that last link is definitely what you need. It will work good for you on any appliance with canister threads.
If you want to hook up to the quick coupler on the trailer, you need to remove the regulator on the appliance you will be using and attach without it as the gas at the point of the coupling is already regulated.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
I traced out the quick disconnect line and found it does indeed connect to the regulated side of the propane supply. However, It seems that most of the things I'd want to connect, like a propane grill or BBQ, camp stove, Little Red Campfire or space heater would each have its own regulator.
Is having the quick disconnect on the regulated side a safety provision? I come from the world of electronics where two regulators is good. I understand for the propane world, it's bad. Will every appliance need to be reworked to use with the quick disconnect? This seems to limit convenience and interchange-ability.
Regards,
Matt

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
And, that's why I didn't have the quick-disconnect installed. I thought about it. It was on my wish list, but then I went camping.
I found myself trying to shelter the BBQ from wind by moving it down the hill and behind a bush or overturned picnic table or around the other side of the trailer. I could easily see myself tripping over the hose. I realized I would have to pack up the hose, coated in muck splashed up by a rain storm.
I did buy one of those propane 'trees' and a 10 lb. propane tank. The 'tree' went on one camping trip. Took me that long to discover that I didn't really need a lamp over the BBQ. I needed it on the picnic table and it needed to be portable ( hardly the case when it's attached to a 10 pound tank that's attached to the BBQ and a propane stove.
I use the 10 lb. tank attached to the BBQ ( you can get a 5 lb too ). I still carry a propane lamp, but it is stowed and if I need to get it out, it runs on a 1 lb. tank. I got rid of the propane stove and use a butane stove ( Thunder Range ) because it burns really hot when you need it to. Hot water in minutes. There are many brands of this stove that is very popular with Koreans and Chinese and can be found cheap in Asian grocery stores. Fuel isn't that cheap, but cheap enough for the amount used. And, of course there is the 3-burner range in the trailer.
We do most cooking and washing up outside. The BBQ and butane stove handle most anything we need to do. And, now I've got a folding Coleman oven that sits neatly on the BBQ or on the butane stove if I feel the need to make cupcakes.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
Actually when camping, whether hiking or canoeing in the backcountry, or when using the trailer, I do the majority of the cooking. I can relax and enjoy it. When at home I do next to none, except when company is over.

I do the dishes too, after tending the BBQ. Of course they usually end up as starter in the fire pit. I know paper plates are not 'green' but I can rationalize. After all, I'm not adding soap to the environment.
Speaking of the fire-pit, I bring a fire-log with us camping. Our fires are actually infrequent, but nothing builds a core fire like a small chunk of a wax-impregnated fire log. And, I'll never forget the piercing glare of a fellow camper when I started a fire in less than a minute, in the pouring rain, after he had spent an hour inhaling smoke to no avail. That alone was worth the investment.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
I enjoy cooking at camp.
At home, I cook about half the time. It's the only way I can get a decent meal of meat and potatoes.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
We use Corel plates, ones we bought for our tralier 20 years ago. They wipe off real easy. And Glenn, soap is completely biodegradable in soil, unless it is perfumed. Sorry, but you need a new rationalization to your methods.
When in the backcountry I take little fire starters I make of loosely rolled toilet paper soaked in wax and pressed flat. Those logs would be a good idea for starting fires where all the wood available is crappy. Once the heat gets up then just about anything will burn. I might have to pick a couple up.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
Paper plates is a family tradition.
You give the kiddies the paper plates to decorate. Keeps them busy before dinner. I'd recommend lead-free markers.
Then you eat off them, and then use them as fire starter.
Try that with your Corel.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
We just give the kids a stick and a knife and tell them to whittle. Lots of good kindling is created.
I don't like the feeling when a steak knife slices into my thigh when I use paper.

I do the grilling on the road & at home. Other than that I'm regulated to cooking one dish at home.. chicken curry, which I must admit it pretty good..

I don't have plastic knives either, no likey.
I love curried dishes. Indian foods with all their tasty spices is a favourite of mine, and Lisa's.

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
Indoor gas appliances use a lower gas pressure than outdoor gas appliances. Check the actual pressure req. for the appliance before modifying it's location. Cheers Mike

Baglo, I know this is old news, but I'm curious if you still have that Coleman camp oven ... and if you like it?

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
I still have it, but I'll likely leave it at home unless I plan to use it. It weighs seven pounds.
I've only used it once to re-heat pulled pork.
For me, it's a novelty. Might make brownies some time or other.
I think I bought it because I'd run out of stuff to buy for the trailer....

Re: Camp Chef's Outdoor Camp Oven
LOL. I am a baker at heart and am intrigued by the possibility of cookies after a long day's work/play. Pizza is also a pull. If anyone else is of similar persuasion and has one of these Coleman ovens, do tell. It's pretty reasonably priced.
